I had just finished writing my last exam online. I switched my laptop off and grabbed my phone then went downstairs. I went to the kitchen to make myself something to eat.

Iyana: "Letho!" she screams walking in the kitchen holding onto a packet of chips.

Mah: "Ngizokushaya wena." Iyana just giggles.

Me: "Are you hungry Iyana?" she shakes her head and hands me her chips. I open them for her then hand then back to her.

Iyana: "Thank you." she says in a cute little voice making me grin. I can never get used to her voice and the fact that she's able to speak some words now.

Swe: "Xoli, are you also going with Gogoh and Junior?" They were heading to Richards Bay for the holidays.

Me: "Yes."

Swe: "Please don't go now."

Me: "Why?"

Swe: "Mom and dad will force me to go too." she sulks.

Me: "I-" I'm cut off by bhuti Sqalo.

Sqalo: "If Xoli wants to leave with Gogoh then let her, stop being selfish. If you don't want to leave then tell mom and dad yourself. Stop using Xoli and Junior as a cover to do your nonsense wena."

Swe: "I don't know what you are talking about." she grumps.

Sqalo: "Wena Xoli, stop letting lo use y'all to cover her ways because when dad catches her, you all will get in trouble. "

Swe: "Bhuti, why are you being dramatic?"

Sqalo: "I'm serious." he says grabbing a fruit and walks out. Swe groans angrily and walks out of the kitchen making me chuckle. I finish making my food and go sit in the lounge.

Mah: "Hey baby. How was the exam?" she asks as I sit next to her.

Me: "It was easy." she chuckles.

Mah: "Okay smarty pants." she pinches my cheeks. Bhuti Fana walks in with my mother behind her.

Mom: "Sanibonani." She settles next to me. She hugs and kisses me before turning her focus to Mah.

Mah: "How are the kids?" mom sighs.

Mom: "They are with their father's family." She has been going through a divorce these past few weeks. That jerk of her ex-husband has the nerve to try and claim her assets, luckily they weren't married in C.O.P.

Mah: "Oh okay."

Mom: "I was hoping that you could help me with finding a house in Durban since you guys are in the property business."

Mah: "You moving to Durban?!"

Mom: "Yes, I just want to be in an environment that is comfortable and a new start."

Mah: "Okay. I will talk to Lizwi."

Mom: "Really? That would be amazing, thank you sis."

As they continued talking, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement for my mom's sudden change. It was very much hopeful and exciting to me somehow. I think what made me more happy is knowing that she divorced that husband of hers and has finally chose me and my siblings.

Just then, the door opened and dad walked in with some woman who looked very familiar. Both mah and mom share a look before looking at dad and his guest.

Mah: "Lizwilenkosi, uzimisele vele ngokungidelela kwami?!" dad sighs and walks to mah. He pulls her to him by waist, kissing her in the process.

Mom: "Xoli, excuse yourself please." she says giving me a look while dad continues talking to mah. I leave them in silence. After a few minutes, I hear mom shout "Wenzani la Mandisa?!"
