BAFANA MESULI MAJOLA

I was busy preparing for the doctor's appointment today. Today was the day we were to find out the gender of the baby. I slipped into some pair of jeans, a golf tshirt and sneakers. I grabbed my keys, wallet and phone before heading out.

Mom: "You going now?!" I nodded. She was busy feeding Iyana who immediately stretched out her arms to me when she was done feeding so I take her into my arms.

Me: "Yeah, I'm already late." I lied as Iyana kept playing with my nose.

Mom: "Okay, bring me a copy of the scan yezwa??"

Me: "I will. I love you, bye." I try to hand her Iyana but Iyana screams crying.

Mom: "Yey wena, woza!" she said trying to take her

Me: "Myeke mah, I'll go with her." she rolled her eyes and nodded.

Mom: "Goodluck." I chuckle and left with Iyana who was still clinging on my t shirt. I carefully buckled her up in the backseat since her car seat wasn't here and then got in the driver's side. I drove off to our usual gynaecologist's practice.

I found her seated by the benches in the reception area. I greeted and took a seat next to her.

Ntokozo: "How are you?" I glared at her and turned my attention back to Iyana. I opened some cartoons on my phone for her while we waited, just so she can be occupied.

Ntokozo: "Let's go in."  I walked behind her. I had to keep reprimanding myself whenever I'd look at her legs. She had really beautiful legs and I was always fascinated by them.

Dr Nkosi: "My favourite couple-"

Me: "Not to be rude but can we just get to it?" Ntokozo glances at me.

Dr Nkosi: "Right. Madam, please lie on the bed." I take a seat on the vacant chair. Dr Nkosi does what he does and then points at the screen.

Dr Nkosi: "There's our baby, right there." he keeps pointing.

Me: "Can you tell the gender yet?"

Dr Nkosi: "Yes. You are having a...." I bite my lip in anticipation with my leg continuously bouncing.

Iyana: "Yin le?" she points at the screen. I chuckle signaling her to keep quiet.

Dr Nkosi: "Oh you're having a baby boy!" I smile proudly. I really wasn't that interested in what gender our baby will be, as long as it was a healthy baby.

Me: "Can you please print out copies of the scan for me." he nods and switches off the machine. I help Ntokozo wipe her stomach and get off the bed.

Iyana: "incama baba."

Ntokozo: "I'll take her." she takes Iyana with her and leaves the room.

Me: "Thank you doc!" I say accepting the scan copies and then grab my things and leave. I wait by the reception area for Ntokozo and Iyana.

Iyana: "Baba!" she screams running to me. I pick her up, throwing her in the air and catch her again as her giggles fill the reception area.

Ntokozo: "Can you please drop me off?!"

Me: "I don't want any troubles with your husband Ntokozo."

Ntokozo: "Oh." I press my phone a few times then turn to her.

Me: "An uber will be here shortly." I forward all the details of the ride to her and then get in my car and drive off.

***********

Later that day I decided to drive back to Richards Bay since my siblings were that side. I drove down with Iyana since mom and dad were to leave for their vacation tomorrow.

Sqalo and I were chilling in his room, having drinks. He was busy telling me about his new woman.

Me: "When do I meet her?"

Sqalo: "Soon man, soon."

Me: "Mmhm."

Sqalo: "So where's your meddie "

Me: "Nxx." I took a sip of my beer.

Sqalo: "What's the matter now?!"

Me: "A few days ago, a man knocked on her door and I answered only for me to grt beat up."

Sqalo: "What?!"

Me: "It was her husband. She's married." I said then laughed lightly in disbelief. It still felt like a dream somehow, it hadn't really dawned to me that what I thought I had with Ntokozo was all a lie. My heart just couldn't accept it or I didn't want to accept it.

Sqalo: "Quit playing man." I glare at him, already annoyed.

Me: "Do I look like I'm playing??"

Sqalo: "What the hell man?! How was she able to hide all that for so long?!" I shrugged laughing. I really couldn't believe this was me, got played by a woman nje! My ego and pride were surely bruised.
