Daryl was trying to make it up to the group that he felt he had abandoned. Despite his worries everyone easily welcomed him back with open arms.Except one.
Julia could hardly look at him and when she did she almost looked strange in his eyes.
In all the time Daryl had known her he couldn't recall ever seeing this expression on her. He had seen her drunk, sober, mad, pissed, happy, sad, he had even seen her get wide eyed probably due to the trauma when she would zone out. He noticed the way she would just stare off at times and seem lost in thought.
Never once did she look like this.
Betrayed.
And by him.
It made his stomach drop every time she gave that look because it was a mixture of sadness and pent up anger. She already let some of it out when she kneed him in the balls but he knew she was waiting until this governor business was over.
So-.... Currently Daryl hides in his new room playing with an arrow trying to think of possible ways he could make Julia realize he knew he had messed up and regretted it.
That's how Carol found him, she smiled softly like she knew what he was thinking too. But she wouldn't bring it up right away in case he shut down.
"Haven't had a chance to say I'm glad you came back." Carol says sweetly happy to have her best friend back.
Daryl scoffs at her words as he looks down at his arrow. "To what? All this?" He refers to the mess they're in by waving his arrow around making the woman lean off his door frame and come sit inside with him.
"This is our home." Carol says in a bright tone despite their situation. But her false cheer didn't trick Daryl for one second as he called the group's situation what it was.
"This is a tomb." Daryl says with certainty and Carols smile twitches before she looks away sadly.
"That's what t-dog called it. Thought he was right till you found me." Carol kindly tells Daryl appreciation clear in her tone which makes him smile briefly.
"He's your brother, but he's not good for you..... He's not good for this groups sake....... He's not good for Julia's sake." Carol whispers the last part knowing if Julia over heard she would snap that she was just fucking peachy.
That what Merle had done hadn't affected her at all because as she keeps saying, 'it's nothing that hasn't been done before.'
"Don't let him bring you down. After all look how far you've come." Carol says like it's great but the joke lies in her statement since they sit in a prison cell.
