8. Yesterday Hook up

Yujin sighed, running a hand through his hair. He was still single, as usual. Not that he minded—he had work, ambition, and money to focus on.

Yet here he was, being dragged to a bar by Rei, who kept begging him to come along. Rei already had Liz with him, so Yujin couldn’t understand why he needed Yujin as company.

Now he found himself awkwardly standing by the bar, sipping his drink while Rei chatted animatedly with Liz. He was the third wheel, but since it was Rei’s treat, he didn’t complain.

“Yah, Yujin.”

“What?” he replied, not looking up.

“What did you want to tell me earlier?” Rei pressed.

“Oh…that…” Yujin hesitated.

“What?”

“I…don’t know if you noticed, but when I came in, I saw a girl at the edge of the table. She…she’s hot. Like, girl-crush level hot.”

Rei whistled. “Wow. Didn’t know you could notice girls like that.”

“I know…” Yujin muttered.

“Why didn’t you go talk to her?”

“Another guy was with her, so…”

“Ayy, being friends with her isn’t a crime. Go talk to her, dude.”

“Yeah, go for it, Yujin.” Liz chimed in.

“Really?” Yujin asked incredulously.

“Go for it,” she confirmed.

“Nah…forget it.” He waved her off.

They continued chatting, the conversation drifting aimlessly, until Yujin suddenly felt tiny hands wrap around his waist. He froze, heart hammering.

She was the girl he had been talking about.

Liz and Rei stared at him, their faces a mix of confusion and shock. Liz’s eyes nearly popped out.

Yujin opened his mouth to ask what was going on, but the girl buried her face into his chest, sobbing quietly.

“Uh…” His voice faltered.

“Help me…please…help me…” Her trembling voice cracked.

She clung to him tightly, her body shaking in fear.

Before he could fully process the situation, a man approached.

“Hey, baby…come here, I’m sorry, okay? Let’s go home…”

“Uhm…my girlfriend’s in a bad mood. She’s mad…come here, baby, I’m so sorry.” The man reached for her arm.

“She’s lying…help me, please…don’t believe him…he’s lying!” she whispered urgently.

Yujin’s reflexes kicked in. He shoved the man’s hands away.

“What the hell are you?” the man shouted.

“Why are you touching her?”

“She’s my girlfriend, you brat!”

“Are you nuts? She’s my girlfriend! I’m her boyfriend!” Yujin snapped.

Liz and Rei exchanged shocked glances, but Yujin gave them a subtle signal. They understood immediately and called security. The man was swiftly escorted out.

The girl continued to hide her face against Yujin’s chest.

“Miss…he’s gone now. Are you okay?” he asked gently.
