The air outside the academy was freezing.
Not because of the weather.
But because every heartbeat inside Jang Wonyoung’s chest felt colder with every second she stood there waiting.
Her fingers tightened around the bouquet bucket she had spent almost three hours arranging herself. White roses. Blue delphiniums. Tiny baby breaths between them because Yujin once told her they looked like stars trapped between flowers.
It had been two years.
Two years of waiting.
Two years of late-night calls that lasted only five minutes because cadets weren’t allowed phones for long.
Two years of unread messages during harsh training periods.
Two years of sleeping alone while convincing herself that love meant patience.
And she did wait.
God, she waited for him through everything.
While her friends traveled.
While couples celebrated anniversaries.
While birthdays passed with only short military voice calls.
She stayed.
Because she loved Ahn Yujin more than she had ever loved herself.
The academy graduation ceremony had just ended. Families crowded around the large field, cheering and hugging cadets dressed in sharp dark uniforms. Cameras flashed everywhere. Mothers cried. Fathers patted shoulders proudly.
Wonyoung stood near the gate, searching for him through the sea of uniforms.
Then she saw him.
Her face immediately brightened.
There he is.
Tall.
Broad shoulders.
That same posture she missed so much.
The wind slightly moved his black hair as he stood beside another officer.
Wonyoung smiled softly to herself, already imagining his reaction when he saw her.
She took a step forward.
Then another.
But before she could call his name, a girl suddenly rushed toward him first.
Wonyoung slowed down.
The girl was beautiful. Elegant. Expensive-looking. Wearing a cream dress and heels completely unsuited for the academy ground.
The girl wrapped her arms around Yujin’s arm naturally.
Too naturally.
Wonyoung stopped walking.
Her smile faded little by little.
Yujin looked down at the girl immediately, and something about his expression felt… wrong.
Not warm.
Not happy.
Uncomfortable.
His jaw tightened slightly.
Like he wanted to pull away but couldn’t.
Wonyoung frowned softly.
Maybe it was his relative.
Maybe—
“I miss you, my handsome fiancé.”
The world went silent.
