Yujin stepped quietly into the house. The clock read twelve in the middle of the night. Wonyoung must be asleep by now.
He and Wonyoung had been together for almost two years, living in the same house since last year—something he had asked for, and she had agreed to.
Tonight was special. It was Jang Wonyoung’s birthday. His own birthday was tomorrow, but that didn’t matter. As long as she was happy, he didn’t care about anything else.
He had already prepared her birthday gift: a ring and a bouquet of flowers. The truth was, tonight wasn’t just about celebrating her—it was the night he would propose.
The house was dark. Yujin flicked on the lights and walked to their room. The door creaked open. Sure enough, she was asleep. He placed the presents on the table and gently brushed her hair back to see her face.
“Even when you’re asleep, you’re still beautiful, my dear,” he murmured, kissing the top of her head and tucking the blanket around her.
He rose to take a quick bath himself, but before he could move, he felt a tug on his hand.
Looking down, he realized she was awake.
“Baby? When did you get here?” she asked, her voice still sleepy.
“I just got here a few minutes ago… Did I wake you?”
She snuggled into his neck, hugging him tightly. “I missed you.”
There she was, clingy as ever. He smiled. Perfect. This was the moment. He handed her the bouquet.
“What’s this for?” she asked.
“Happy birthday to my Jang Wonyoung.”
Her eyes sparkled. “Aww, I thought you forgot!”
“Forget? Never. How could I forget such a special day?”
“Thank you, baby. I love you,” she whispered, climbing onto his lap.
“But…” she teased.
“But?” he tilted his head.
Instead of answering, she pulled him in and kissed him. When they pulled apart, she saw his grin—he looked like an idiot, and she loved it.
“That kiss is your present,” she said. “Tomorrow is your birthday too, but I didn’t get you anything…”
“Nonsense,” he replied, kissing her back. “I don’t care about presents. I care about you. Just you. Being together with you is the only gift I need.”
He gently laid her back on the bed and retrieved the small box from his pocket.
“Since we’re together, and it’s your birthday… I worked so hard to make you mine… Jang Wonyoung sshi… will you be my forever girl? Will you stay by my side for the rest of your life? Yes or yes?”
Her eyes filled with tears of happiness. “Is there any doubt? Of course yes, Yujin! This is what I’ve been waiting for!”
He immediately hugged her, relief and joy flooding him. “Thank you, baby! Thank you so much! You’re officially mine, Jang Wonyoung!”
“Of course I’m always yours!” she replied, smiling.

Weeks passed. Yujin had informed both their families about their engagement, and everyone had happily accepted Wonyoung. Plans for the wedding were underway, and everything went smoothly. Eventually, Yujin and Wonyoung became officially husband and wife.
---
After a long day at work, Wonyoung came home exhausted. Yujin had texted her earlier, saying he would be late. She decided to take a bath and rest for a while.
When she had slept for about an hour, she felt a movement on the bed. Slowly, she opened her eyes.
“Baby? When did you get here?” she asked, her voice half-asleep.
His face lit up in a wide smile. “I just got here a few minutes ago. Did I wake you?”
She snuggled against his neck, inhaling his familiar scent. “I missed you.”
Suddenly, he handed her a bouquet.
“What’s this for?” she asked.
“Happy birthday to my Jang Wonyoung,” he replied.
Her eyes widened. “Aww, I thought you forgot!”
“Forget? No way. I remember it every second, baby. How could I forget?”
“Thank you, baby. I love you,” she whispered, climbing onto his lap.
“But…” she started.
“But?” he tilted his head.
She didn’t answer verbally this time. Instead, she kissed him. When they separated, she noticed the mischievous smile on his face.
“That kiss is your present,” she said softly.
“Nonsense,” he replied, kissing her back. “Being together with you is the only gift I need.”
He gently laid her on the bed and retrieved a small box from his pocket.
“Since we’re together now, and it’s your birthday… I tried so hard to make you mine… Jang Wonyoung sshi, will you be my forever girl? Will you stay by my side for the rest of your life? Yes or yes?”
Her eyes glistened. “Is there any doubt? Of course yes, Yujin! I’ve been waiting for this!”
He hugged her tightly, feeling pure relief and joy. “Thank you, baby! You’re officially mine, Jang Wonyoung!”
“Of course! I’m always yours!” she replied.

A Week Later – Memories
“Babyyyy!” Yujin called from the living room.
“YESSSSSS!” she responded.
“Where are you?”
“Down here!”
“Waeeeee! Look what I found!”
He held up a camera. She peered at it—photos of their first meeting, their first date, their first kiss.
“How about we recreate all these pictures?” he suggested.
“Sure, baby! Sounds fun!” she giggled.
“Then when we have a child, I can show them how we met.”
“Silly,” she teased.
“Of course, but baby…” He took her hands, intertwining them with his.
“Hmm?” she asked.
“Thank you… for everything. For meeting me, for loving me, for being patient with me. I really appreciate it.”
“Me too, baby,” she whispered.
“Thank you for always being there,” he said, pulling her into a warm hug. “I love you, Jang Wonyoung. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
“I love you too, Ahn Yujin… more than I love myself,” she replied, resting her head against his chest.
And in that quiet moment, they knew they were exactly where they were meant to be—together, forever.
