The classroom had finally settled into a tense sort of quiet after the earlier confrontation, the air still thick with adrenaline. Before anyone could relax, Mr. Kang cleared his throat.

“Everyone, attention,” he said, voice sharp. “This morning, I am introducing the Lieutenant in charge of your classes and military training for the next month. Pay close attention.”

The door swung open and in walked a tall, impeccably built man in full military uniform. Every step he took echoed in the classroom like a measured drumbeat. His posture was perfect, movements precise, and there was an undeniable aura of authority about him.

The girls immediately noticed. A few of them whispered, eyes widening, slightly leaning forward. Winter’s hand flew to her mouth. Lia’s jaw dropped a fraction. Minju’s grip on her pen tightened. Even Wonyoung felt her pulse quicken — though she tried to keep her expression neutral. The lieutenant’s sharp jawline, piercing dark eyes, and commanding presence drew attention immediately. He paused at the front, scanning the room with the kind of gaze that could make a student feel exposed just by standing in his line of sight.

“Good morning,” he began, voice low but firm, carrying easily across the room. “I am Lieutenant Kang Seojun. I will be overseeing your classes, your training, and your conduct for the duration of this program. You will listen, follow instructions, and respect the chain of command. Failure to do so will result in immediate disciplinary action.”

He picked up a clipboard and looked down at it briefly. “Let’s start with some basic questions to understand where you are mentally. How many of you have had any previous military or physical training experience?”

Hands shot up, and the lieutenant nodded, noting them down. “Good. You will also learn teamwork exercises, survival skills, endurance training, and strict dormitory management. Dorms will be assigned tomorrow. Boys and girls in separate wings. Lights out at 10 PM. Wake-up call 5 AM. Meals and inspections are mandatory.”

He paused, letting the information sink in. “Any questions before we proceed?”

All eyes shifted to Yujin.

Of course.

The lieutenant’s gaze finally settled on him — dark, sharp, like a hawk observing its prey. Yujin leaned back in his chair, one arm draped over the backrest, legs crossed, looking completely unbothered. His smirk was faint, lazy, and infuriatingly confident.

“Hey,” the lieutenant said, voice calm but cutting. “You, Ahn — Yujin. Have you ever participated in any structured training before, or are you just planning to sleep through the whole thing?”

The class stifled their laughs. Some whispered, anticipating trouble.

Yujin stretched, yawned theatrically, and replied, “Lieutenant, I’ve done all sorts of training… mostly in avoiding chores at home and dodging responsibilities. You could call it… professional evasion. But yes, I do lift pens and… spirits.”

A few of the boys snorted. The girls rolled their eyes, though a few tried not to look impressed. Wonyoung’s lips pressed into a thin line as she watched, her heart inexplicably tugged at the audacity of it all.

The lieutenant’s expression didn’t change. His dark eyes studied Yujin closely, seeing something others didn’t. Beneath the laziness, the smirk, the mockery… there was a sharp intelligence. Focus. Awareness. And maybe a little danger.

“You seem confident,” Lieutenant Kang said, voice calm but firm. “I suggest you carry that same energy into following instructions, rather than using it to undermine authority. Can you do that?”
