The noise started before the bell even finished ringing.

Desks screeched across the floor. Someone was laughing too loud. A plastic bottle rolled from the back row to the front like it was part of a bowling game.

“WHO TOOK MY PEN?!” Chaeryoung yelled, half standing on her chair.

“Maybe it ran away from you,” Lia teased, braiding Minju’s hair like they were at a sleepover instead of school.

At the girls’ side, Liz stood at the front row, gripping her class notebook like it was the only thing keeping her sane. “Everyone, please sit down! We have attendance—”

A paper airplane hit her shoulder.

She closed her eyes. Inhaled. Exhaled.

Beside her, Wonyoung gently picked the airplane off the floor and folded it neatly. “Maybe… we just wait for teacher,” she said softly.

Behind them, Leeseo was arguing with Nako about snacks, Yuri and Winter were watching like it was a drama, and Chaeryoung had now accused three innocent people of pen theft.

Meanwhile—

The boys’ side was worse.

A chair tipped over with a loud BANG.

Yujin stood in the center aisle, collar messy, sleeves rolled up, jaw tight. A boy from another class stood in front of him, clearly regretting life choices.

“Say it again,” Yujin said, voice low and sharp.

“I—I was just joking—”

Yujin grabbed his collar.

Ryujin leaned back in his seat, completely unbothered. “Five seconds before teacher comes,” he said lazily.

Yena was literally sitting backwards on a chair, eating chips. “Bet he won’t stop.”

Karina and Yeji were arguing over arm wrestling. Chaewon and Eunbi were recording like it was entertainment. Yuna, Gaeul, and Hitomi were chanting “FIGHT FIGHT—”

The door slammed open.

Silence fell so fast it hurt.

Their homeroom teacher, Mr. Kang, stood at the entrance with a face that promised destruction.

Yujin let go of the boy’s collar slowly and pushed him away.

Chairs scraped as everyone rushed back to their seats.

Liz bowed quickly. “Good morning, sir!”

Mr. Kang walked to the front without speaking, placed his files down, and turned to the class.

“I leave for three minutes,” he said flatly, “and it turns into a battlefield.”

His eyes stopped on Yujin.

“…Sit properly.”

Yujin dropped into his chair with a loud thud, staring straight ahead, zero guilt on his face.

Mr. Kang picked up a marker and wrote in big bold letters:

COMPULSORY MILITARY TRAINING – 1 MONTH

The room exploded.

“WHAT?!”
“NO WAY!”
“LIKE SOLDIERS?!”
“CAN I DROP OUT—”

“QUIET.”

Silence again.

Mr. Kang crossed his arms. “Starting next week, all students will undergo a one-month military training program here at school. You will stay in assigned dorms. Wake-up call at 5 a.m. Physical drills, survival training, discipline lessons, teamwork missions.”
