Spring arrived softly in March, carrying the promise of renewal as cherry blossoms began to dust the streets of Seoul like pale pink confetti. Nearly nine months had passed since that careful first almost-kiss on the rooftop, and Wonyoung felt something shift inside her—deep, quiet, and certain. The wounds Soobin had inflicted, the betrayal that had once felt like a permanent scar, had healed into faint lines she could trace without pain. Therapy had given her tools; time had given her perspective; and Yujin... Yujin had given her unwavering proof that love didn't have to hurt.
She no longer flinched at unexpected touches or second-guessed every sweet word. The nights when old doubts tried to whisper were rare now, easily silenced by the memory of Yujin's steady presence—his hand always offered but never demanded, his eyes always kind, never calculating. Soobin's actions, and the complicated family tie through Yujin being his cousin, had once cast a shadow over everything. But Yujin had never once made excuses for Soobin, never minimized what happened. He'd simply chosen her, every single day, proving loyalty wasn't inherited—it was earned.
They'd fallen into an easy rhythm: weekend brunches at quiet cafés, movie nights curled on her couch with a respectful distance that had slowly, naturally shrunk, walks along the Han River where conversation flowed without effort. Yujin still waited for her cues, but the space between them felt less like a barrier and more like anticipation.
One Saturday evening, as the sky turned the soft lavender of dusk, they found themselves back at the same park bench by the pond—the one they'd claimed as theirs during those autumn days. The cherry trees lining the path were in full bloom, petals drifting lazily on the breeze. Wonyoung wore a light cardigan over her dress, the same soft pink as the blossoms overhead. Yujin, in his usual jeans and hoodie, carried two iced coffees he'd insisted on buying "just because."
They sat, shoulders brushing now without hesitation. She took a sip, then set the cup down, turning to face him fully.
"Yujin," she said quietly, her voice steady. "I'm ready."
He looked at her, brows lifting slightly in gentle question, though his eyes already understood. "Ready?"
She nodded, reaching out to take his hand—the first time she'd initiated the full contact. His fingers closed around hers immediately, warm and sure, but he stayed still, letting her lead.
"I've spent so long protecting myself," she continued, thumb tracing slow circles over his knuckles. "From hurt, from hoping too much. But you... you've never given me a reason to protect myself from you. These months, you've shown me what safe feels like. What real feels like." Her gaze held his, clear and unguarded. "I don't want to wait anymore. Not for this. Not for us."
Yujin's breath caught, emotion flickering across his face—relief, joy, a love so deep it almost hurt to look at. He lifted their joined hands, pressing a soft kiss to the back of hers. "Wonyoung... are you sure? There's no rush—"
"I'm sure," she interrupted gently, smiling. "I've never been more sure of anything."
Slowly, deliberately, she leaned in. He met her halfway, closing the last small distance. Their lips touched—tentative at first, a brush of warmth and promise—then deeper, sweeter, as months of patience melted into something electric and tender. His free hand came up to cup her cheek, thumb stroking gently, while hers slid to the nape of his neck, fingers threading through his hair.
When they parted, foreheads resting together, both were smiling, breathless and a little dazed.
"Finally," he whispered, voice rough with feeling.
She laughed softly, the sound light and free. "Worth the wait."
They stayed like that for a long while, kissing again under the falling petals—slow, unhurried, savoring every second. The park lights began to flicker on around them, but neither noticed. The world had narrowed to just the two of them, the slow bloom of their love finally in full color.
