Wonyoung didn’t even realize how heavy her steps had become until she reached the entrance of her apartment building.
Her shoulders ached from carrying her bag all day—lectures in the morning, assignments in between, then hours of smiling politely at customers during her part-time shift. Her feet hurt, her head felt foggy, and her eyes burned from staring at screens and bright lights for too long.
Everything felt too much.
She pressed the elevator button and leaned back against the wall, exhaling slowly. The quiet hum of the building wrapped around her, almost suffocating in its stillness. No messages. No calls. Just… silence.
“Just one day…” she muttered softly to herself, her voice barely above a whisper. “It would be nice if Yujin just… showed up.”
The thought slipped out so naturally it surprised her.
Not planned. Not dramatic. Just a quiet wish.
The elevator arrived with a soft ding. She stepped in, staring at her reflection in the mirror—tired eyes, slightly messy hair, lips pressed into a thin line. She didn’t look like herself. Not the version she used to be. Not the version Yujin always told was beautiful.
The doors closed.
The ride up felt longer than usual.
Her mind drifted back to him—his voice, his stupid little jokes, the way he would always find a way to make things feel lighter without even trying. They hadn’t seen each other properly in days. Both too busy. Both too exhausted.
But tonight, more than anything, she just wanted him.
The elevator stopped.
Another soft ding.
The doors slid open.
Wonyoung stepped out slowly, adjusting her bag on her shoulder. Her body moved on autopilot, walking down the familiar hallway toward her apartment.
One step.
Two steps.
And then—
She froze.
Her breath caught in her throat so suddenly it almost hurt.
There, just a few steps away from her door, stood Yujin.
Leaning casually against the wall like he had been there for a while, one shoulder pressed back, head slightly tilted as his eyes wandered around the hallway. His hands were tucked loosely into his pockets, and for a moment, he didn’t even notice her.
It felt unreal.
Like her mind was playing tricks on her.
Then his eyes shifted.
And landed on her.
The moment stretched.
Yujin straightened immediately, pushing himself off the wall as if he had been waiting for that exact second. A soft smile spread across his face—the kind that always made her chest tighten in ways she couldn’t explain.
“Hey,” he said gently.
Wonyoung didn’t move at first.
She just stared at him, her eyes wide, trying to process what she was seeing. Her heart started beating faster, louder, almost overwhelming.
“You…” she finally breathed out, her voice shaky. “What are you doing here?”
He shrugged lightly, his smile still there. “Came to see you.”
