The morning sunlight filtered gently through the dining room windows.

The Jang household was unusually peaceful.

Too peaceful.

After spending most of the night crying, Wonyoung finally opened her bedroom door.

Her eyes were swollen.

Her face looked pale.

She moved slowly, exhaustion evident in every step as she walked downstairs.

Mr. Jang was already sitting at the dining table with a cup of tea in his hands. The moment he saw his daughter, his expression softened.

"You should've slept a little longer."

Wonyoung gave him a small smile.

"I couldn't."

She pulled out a chair and sat beside him.

The silence between them wasn't awkward.

It was comforting.

After a few moments, she looked around the dining room.

"...Where's Mum?"

Mr. Jang glanced toward the kitchen.

"She's in there."

Wonyoung followed his gaze.

Through the half-open doorway, she could see her mother standing by the kitchen counter.

Mrs. Jang wasn't cooking.

Instead, she kept looking down at the phone in her hand.

She looked...

Uneasy.

Almost worried.

Wonyoung frowned slightly.

"What is Mum doing?"

Mr. Jang let out a quiet sigh.

"Go ask her."

Curious, Wonyoung stood and walked into the kitchen.

"Mum?"

Mrs. Jang immediately looked up.

The worry on her face disappeared behind a gentle smile.

"Oh, sweetheart."

"Are you hungry? Breakfast is almost ready."

Wonyoung shook her head.

"You look worried."

Mrs. Jang hesitated for a second before holding up her phone.

"I was trying to contact Yujin."

"I wanted to check on him."

She forced a reassuring smile.

"But it seems he switched off his phone."

The moment those words reached Wonyoung...

Something inside her tightened.

She quickly looked away.

The stubbornness she had been trying to suppress quietly returned, wrapping itself around the hurt that still lingered in her heart.

She folded her arms unconsciously.

"...He's always like that."

Her voice was calm.

Almost indifferent.

"Busy."

"He probably doesn't even realise his phone is off."
