I felt someone grab my shoulder. I jumped and quickly turned around. I was relieved to see that it was Amanda.
"Whoa what's got you all hyped up?" she asked, taking a step back.
"Nothing, you scared me. You know how jumpy I am!" I said.
"So, how are things with you and Louis?" she said, winking and licking her lips. I shook my head at her in disapproval.
"It's good. He's really sweet," I said, getting lost in the thought of Louis.
"Ok then. Well I have to go, talk to you later?" She started to walk away.
"Ya of course," I yelled down the hall. I closed my locker and walked to the window. I saw Louis' car parked out front. I ran down the stairs, excited to see him. I walked across the courtyard, keeping Louis in my sight. I could see him smiling through the car window. Then I felt someone grab my butt. I let out a yelp and turned around to see Tyler standing there, smirking.
"What the hell!?" I yelled. I tried to smack him, but he grabbed my wrist.
"Relax babe," he said winking. I felt someone grab my other hand pulling me back. It was Louis. He pulled me behind him, his body shielding me. Tyler released my wrist.
"You need to back off!" Louis yelled.
"Who the hell are you?" said Tyler.
"I'm her boyfriend."
"Really? Her boyfriend? She never mentioned you. Hey but sluts never do."
"You need to back off before I beat the shit out of you!" yelled Louis. He pushed Tyler, causing him to take a couple steps back. I stepped in between them, facing Louis. I placed my hands on his chest holding him back. Louis couldn't beat him up. If he got caught he could go to jail because he wasn't a minor.
"Louis, don't do it, he's not worth it," I said.
"Ya listen to your girlfriend. You don't want a black eye do you?" Tyler coaxed. I felt Louis push up against me.
"Shut up, asshole," I said to Tyler, turning my head in his direction. I turned my head back, focusing on Louis. "Come on Louis, you'll just make it worse, remember?" I said, hinting at what I told him last night. How Tyler would hurt me if anyone found out. He gritted his teeth, his jaw clenched in anger. He grabbed my arm and spun around, pulling me with him. He basically dragged me to the car. I got in and so did he, slamming the door.
"Fuck!" he yelled hitting the steering wheel.
"Louis calm down, I'm fine, everything is ok," I said in a calm tone. I leaned over and rubbed his shoulder.
"I can't believe you go to school with that little shit," he said. It was silent, Louis heavy, angry breathing was the only thing that could be heard. We sat there for awhile staring out the front window, not a word being said.
"So your my boyfriend?" I said, breaking the silence. He looked at me funny.
"What?" he said, squishing his eye brows together.
"Back there, you said you were my boyfriend," I said with a huge smile on my face. A grin slowly spread on his face.
"I guess I did," he said leaning in. "But the question is, are you my girlfriend?" he asked.
"Yes, I am your girlfriend." The biggest smile formed on his face before he connected his lips with mine.
"Let's get out of here."
"I like this," Louis said. I was confused on what he meant.
"What?" I asked. I looked down at him. He turned his head that was laying on my stomach towards me.
"Being with you. Laying here in the grass, watching the clouds go by. With my girlfriend."
I smiled and ran my fingers in his hair. He rolled on to his stomach, his chin resting on my stomach now. His arm was loosely thrown over my waist. "I just don't really do girlfriends. Well I mean I do them, just they aren't my girlfriends. But your...different. When he did that to you I couldn't help myself. I had to protect you. And for some reason boyfriend slipped out of my mouth. I wanted him to know that you were mine."
"I've never had a boyfriend," I said quietly.
"You? That's so hard to believe considering those guys were drooling over you at the party."
"They all drop cheesy pick up lines or are complete jerks to me, thinking that I like that. They only really want a one night stand and I don't want that. If they would have came up and talked to me and seemed interested in me than maybe I would have had a boyfriend," I said. It was silent.
"Why me then?" he asked. I propped myself up on my elbows, so I could look at him.
"What?"
"I mean I wasn't exactly the nicest to you after we met. I mean I kind of got you drunk and lied to you about the trip."
"But you made a great first impression. You sat with me on the couch and talked to me, a full conversation. You complimented me and equally contributed to the conversation. You didn't use and pick up lines or try to brag or anything. You are... different." He smiled at my joke.
"We are so different, how do we even stand each other?"
"Maybe we aren't as different as you think. And if we are different it will just make everything so much more interesting." I laid back down on my back. He grabbed my hand, intertwining it with his.
"Your amazing, do you know that?"
"Of course," I said, jokingly.
"I wish that we could be together without having to worry about anyone finding out because I would show you off. I'd introduce you as Jess, my smart, beautiful, funny girlfriend."
"Almost like Romeo and Juliet," I said, remembering the epic love story I read in grade 9.
"Just promise me we won't end up like them," he said laughing slightly.
"We won't, I think if my brother found out he would be mad at first but he would learn to live with it."
"If you could guarantee that his and my friendship wouldn't be ruined over this, then I would march to your door and tell him myself."
"Even if he beat the shit out of you?"
"You are worth the pain. As long as you are there to take care of me afterwards."
"Of course."
We laid there in silence for awhile. I was happy just to lay in the silence with Louis beside me. I felt his hand release from mine. I didn't think much of it. I felt something slide on to my finger on my right hand. I sat up Louis sitting up with me. I looked at my hand and saw his ring on my finger. I sat there dumbfounded.
"Louis," I said about to take the ring off. His hands grabbed mine.
"No keep it. If I am yours as much as you are mine, you will keep it." I grabbed his face and pulled it towards mine, our lips crashing together. He pulled away almost in a daze.
"Should take that as a yes?" he asked. I nodded and smiled. "I'm not sure if I believe you," he said, cheekily. I leaned in again and kissed him and never wanted to stop.
