"He hit her." I almost choked on my own tongue. No he's just making that up, he doesn't want you to be together. He's making it up, I told myself.
"But... No, no that's not true he would never do that," I told him. I pulled my knees up to my chest resting my chin on them.
"Are you sure about that?" he asked. The problem is I'm not sure.
"But how do you know? Did he tell you this?" I asked ignoring his question.
"His friend Adam told me." This can't be true but it makes sense. It makes sense why Louis gave up the whole girlfriend thing and why he moved back here. And why he always got so angry when it came to Tyler and he knew so much... No stop, it doesn't make sense, Louis is kind and gentle.
"B-but how," I choked. I was trying to do everything to not break down.
"He was drunk and things got out of control. I don't think you need the details." My breathing picked up and my eyes started to burn. I rocked back and forth on my bed focusing on my feet. I was trying not to fall apart. Louis even stopped drinking too. Everything was fitting together. "Um Jess..." my brother gulped.
I looked up at replying," Ya?"
"Has he ever...hurt you?" I stopped what I was doing and focused back on my feet. No he hasn't but he was close, so close. That was it, that was the last puzzle piece. I couldn't deny it any longer all signs pointed to yes.
I felt a tear run down my cheek but I quickly wiped it away.
"N-no, he would never do that," I stuttered. I did answer truthfully I just left out a little part.
"You would tell me if he did right?" he asked.
"Of course," I said quickly. I grabbed another tissue wiping my eyes. I didn't realize that I would be more upset than I already was.
"Are you going to be ok?" he asked patting my knee.
"Ya," I sniffled. I changed my mind. "No probably not," I laughed. He rubbed my knee as I cried.
"I'm sorry Jess."
"I need to talk to him, Todd. I need to hear it from him."
"Jess I don't want you near him. I don't want you to get hurt-"
"He has to explain his side. I need to know for sure." He sighed and stood up.
"Can you just wait a little bit? Until I make my decision?" he asked. Decision.... was he planning on killing Louis or something?
"What decision?" I asked.
"If you two can be together or not."
"Wh-what?" I said shocked. I though he had his mind set already.
"From what you told me, you two care about each other a lot and I think maybe he has changed. But I have to let you decide if you want to be with him or not. Although I don't want you to be together you are almost 17 and I can't protect you forever. Some things you just have to learn on your own." He walked to my door placing his hand on the doorknob.
"Thanks for finally understanding, but I'm still mad at you." Finally he understood and it only took 7 hours to convince him. He laughed and smiled.
"I know," he said before shutting my door.
...
"Any word from Louis yet?" Amanda asked me as I shoved a fry in my mouth. I swallowed before I answered.
