G!P Gracie

"Are you ready to go?" You ask as you finish getting ready. Gracie humms in response. "Big day today." You smile encouragingly as you adjust the rings decorating your fingers.

"How do you feel?" You ask curiously. "I'm so confident, I'm certain that I've got this." She says with a smile, pecking your lips as you open the door for her.

"Love to hear it." You say as you take her hand in yours.

The night was going pretty well. There were a few awards already called when it came to the one Gracie was nominated for. Best new artist.

You knew how confident Gracie was about this award and hoped that she would win it. She would be so hurt if she didn't, even though getting nominated was already a big achievement.

"And the VMA goes to.... Chappell Roannnn," the announcer says excitedly as she looks at the card disclosing the winner.

Everyone stands, clapping and cheering. You and Gracie stand too, following everyone else, but you knew that deep down she was mad and resented that she didn't win.

"I can't believe it. That award was mine." Gracie said, her eyebrows furrowing in frustration.

"It's okay. Getting nominated was already an achievement in of itself." You said, trying to soothe her as you intertwined your hand with hers.

She pulled her hand away from yours. You couldn't lie, that kind of hurt. You didn't do anything wrong, so why is she taking it out on you.

Gracie sits silently for a while, spiraling in her mind while Chappell Roan finishes her speech.

"It's just- I was so sure I had it, you know?" Gracie says lowly as she turns to face you. "I know." You said softly. "I'm sorry it didn't work out the way you wanted it to."

You tried your best to comfort her as the night went on, but she just wouldn't let it go. "Gracie." You said, sounding a little more annoyed than you had intended to. "There's always next year, you know. You can't change the outcome of today's awards." You said as Gracie brought up her loss for what felt like the one hundredth time tonight.

"I can't believe you. You probably didn't even want me to win." Gracie said angrily before walking away from you.

You rolled your eyes, sighing deeply as you went after her. "You're overreacting. All I'm saying is there's nothing you can do now other than try again next time. Being mad about it isn't going to change anything." You said, receiving no answer as she just narrowed her eyes at you. Looking at you like you're the enemy.

"Let's just go home." You said as the awards were over. "Sleep on it. I'm sure you'll feel better about it tomorrow." You sighed in defeat.

"Fine." Gracie grunted as she started going towards the exit, leaving you to chase after her again.

Your driver picked you up outside the front entrance and you made your way home. Home being the place you're renting for a bit while in New York for the VMAs.

Gracie didn't say a word the entire ride back. You were beginning to get frustrated with her lack of coping skills, she was acting like a child. She was way too hung up on her loss.

You thanked the driver as you got out of the car, holding the door for Gracie, who didn't even acknowledge your presence.

Gracie sighed deeply as you walked inside. "Babe, I'm sorry. I've been kind of a dick to you." She says as you shut the door behind you.
