Your attempts to sober up weren't very effective, even with Kate's help. After a couple of weeks, you realized that 10 years of abusing alcohol wasn't going to be easy to fix.
After another long conversation, you admitted yourself into rehab. It was your last chance and you were praying it would help. You wanted to get better.
Kate was the only person in your life you truly trusted and felt like you could rely on. You didn't want to lose her due to your addiction.
---
Rehab was hell, especially for the first couple of weeks. But here you were, 90 days later. You are sober for 3 months and were getting out today. You felt pretty good. Now, you just had to keep it up.
You knew it was going to be hard, with temptations everywhere. While you were away, Kate cleared your house of any alcohol, doing a thorough sweep of the house to find anything you had stashed in various places.
Kate was waiting for you, with a big smile on her face as you walked outside. You weren't really expecting her to be here. It's been 3 months. You figured she would have moved on and forgotten about you by now.
"Hi," she beamed as she pulled you into a tight hug. You chuckled slightly and hugged her back, staying embraced for a while. She kissed your lips softly as she pulled away from the hug.
She drove you home and you talked about your experience at rehab and about how you felt in general.
"Finally home." You say happily as you enter the house. It was spotless. "You didn't need to clean my entire house, you know?" You teased her playfully, grateful for the gesture.
You put your bag down as you were thirsty. You went into the kitchen, grabbing a glass from the cupboard as Kate walked into the open-plan living room.
You put the glass on the counter and opened a cupboard to get a drink. You were on autopilot and sighed as you realized that you opened your alcohol cabinet, which was now empty. It was instinct at this point, going for the alcohol.
"This is going to be so much harder than I thought," you mumble to yourself as you opt for tap water instead.
"It'll get easier," Kate whispers as she wraps her arms around you from behind, resting her head on your shoulder.

A couple of months passed and you were still holding strong, now 8 months sober. You seemed to be thinking about drinking less and less, though you still often got an urge to drink.
You always managed to overcome the pull it had on you. Most times, you were able to contain yourself, but sometimes you needed Kate to keep you on the right path.
She was really good at that, making sure that you didn't drink. She always tried to be there for you, whether it was physically or just being available to talk on the phone, but she wasn't always able to do that.
It always interested you when Kate would disappear for a while. Sometimes only a couple of hours sometimes almost the whole day.
Whenever you asked about it, she always brushed it off and said that it was just work, yet you couldn't help but not believe it.
She would go MIA for periods of time and then sometimes come back with bruises. Something wasn't adding up. She never really talked about her job when you asked, claiming that it was just a boring service job.
This has happened quite a few times since you got out of rehab. However, this was the longest you have gone without talking to her or her checking in on you, 26 whole hours so far.
