TW: alcohol addiction, bad mental health, mentions of death.
---
Your life has always been hectic, at least as far as you could remember. Your parents argued a lot and then drank and did more stupid abusive shit.
You never felt safe in your own home. By the age of 13 you turned to alcohol for comfort. There was always some around the house and you started sneaking some every now and then.
The occasional drink turned into several drinks multiple times a week until it became an almost daily routine.
During high school, you restrained yourself from drinking before school but would often come in hungover from the previous night of drinking.
You barely graduated high school and decided not to go to college as you figured it would be a waste of time and money.
You started working during the weeks and partying on the weekends. That's how you met your girlfriend, Kate. You met at a party and became friends, eventually starting to date.
You hid your drinking problem from her. What she didn't know couldn't hurt her, or at least that's what you told yourself.
Kate managed to do something that no one had ever achieved before. She made you better. You wanted to be better for her.
Just one thing was in the way. It wasn't as easy as you thought it would be to get better. You had been severely depressed all your life and as much as you wanted to get better, you weren't sure you could.
You tried everything to stop drinking, especially so much, but you couldn't. The longest you could go was 3 days without drinks after months of trying to sober up.
Kate kad started pulling away recently and you figured that it was about time. Everyone you've ever cared about broke you and left you like trash on the side of the road.
You knew she would leave sooner or later, just like the rest of them. You were surprised that she managed to stay around for almost 6 months.
But now, all of a sudden, she's busy like all the time, so you sensed the end of your relationship was near.
This weekend, you didn't even feel like going out as Kate cancelled last minute again. Instead, you opted for sulking around at home with a bottle of booze in your own company. You were used to being alone and you grew to like it.
---
A bright light shone in your eyes as you opened them slightly. You squinted, trying to understand where you were before recognizing the familiar walls of a hospital room.
The last thing you could remember was walking around your house with a bottle of liquor in hand while blasting your favourite music.
You were home alone, so how did you end up here. You pulled out the IV in your arm so you could get up.
It was morning from what you could tell by looking out the window. A nurse walked in as you were looking outside.
"You should be resting," the nurse said sternly and you turned to look at her. "I'm fine. When can I leave?" You ask her.
She took a deep breath before gesturing to the bed for you to sit. She checked your vitals and cleared you to go home if you so wished, but insisted it was better to stay for a little longer.
"I'll be fine." You tell her and get up to leave. I stop her before she gets to the door. "Do you know how I got here?" You asked her confused.
"Uh yeah, your friend called us. She was very worried, stayed here for a while but we had to tell her to leave since it was outside of visiting hours." The nurse said.
