Your best friend Lucy was hosting a big party to celebrate her birthday. You met in high school and have been best friends since.

After high school, Lucy got into acting and music. She wasn't famous, but she was quite well known nonetheless.

She met and befriended quite a few well-known actors and musicians in her career. She was the type of person who could become friends with almost anyone.

She was very outgoing and social. You were the complete opposite of her, yet you were best friends. You were introverted and didn't like big crowds.

You supported Lucy through her career, but you weren't big on using social media. You tended to stay away from it all.

Sometimes she would rave on about someone she met and you would listen with a smile on your face, happy to see her so happy. Though half the time, you didn't even know who she was talking about.

Sometimes curiosity got the better of you and you googled their name, just to see who they are. But that didn't even happen often.

Even knowing how easily Lucy made friends, you were surprised to pull up to the venue and find possibly hundreds of people there for her party.

"How many people did you invite?" You asked in disbelief. You hadn't even stepped in and it already felt way too overcrowded.

"Only like two hundred." Lucy said simply. Your eyes widened. How did she even have that many people to invite.

"Come on, it'll be fun." Lucy said, pulling you by the hand as she saw the expression on your face. "You're lucky I love you because I would not be walking in there for anyone else." You grumbled, following her lead.

"I know." Lucy grinned. "Just one night for my birthday and then we can go back to our low socialising hangouts." Lucy added.

You took a deep breath as you walked in, Lucy's arms hooked through yours. You quickly broke away from her as she was surrounded by guests trying to wish her a happy birthday.

The venue was covered in colourful lights and decorations as music blasted from the speakers.

You went to the bar and ordered a shot, hoping it would help you deal with all the people around you.

It's not like you couldn't socialise. You just didn't want to. There was nothing more boring than meaningless small talk with strangers. There were very few people that you actually liked to be around.

But if your presence here would make Lucy happier, you'd endure a night of strangers getting way too close to your comfort zone in the packed room.

Your face lit up as you saw one of your mutual friends, that was at least one person you knew besides the birthday girl.

You greeted her excitedly and quickly realised that she was already tipsy. You chuckled softly. It was so typical of her.

You also recognised a few celebrities that you had googled during Lucy's rants but didn't approach any.

There were a lot more people that you didn't recognise at all than those you did. And the number shrunk even more for the people you actually knew.

Your other friend walked away as her boyfriend came up. You ordered another drink and leaned against the bar.

You swirled the drink in your glass, scanning the party trying to see if you could locate Lucy. You'd become more relaxed now as you got used to the loud noises and flashing lights.
