You were strolling down the hallway minding your own business. You weren't in a rush, but it seemed that many people around you were.
You could hear the sounds of quick footsteps and even heavy thuds as people rushed around the school.
You weren't sure why exactly everyone seemed to be so on edge and frantic, but you ignored it as that was often the case here in Hogwarts.
You were having a pretty good day, up until you collided with someone as you rounded a sharp corner.
You caught your balance quickly as the figure just about grazed by you, but you figured out that they had fallen or dropped something by the thud that followed.
"Are you okay?" You ask politely bending down to try to help them pick up their stuff that you could feel they were gathering.
"Watch it! Are you blind?" She snarls aggressively, which causes you to retract, especially since it was her fault. She is having a bad day, you figured.
Why was this girl carrying so much stuff in her hands like that while basically running down the corridor was a mystery to you. It was only a matter of time until something like that would have happened.
"Sorry," you mumbled softly as you bent down to find your white cane that you had dropped during the collision.
You grabbed around for it and finally found it quickly, getting back to your feet and walking away briskly before she could say anything else.
Just as the mystery girl finished picking up her pile of books, she saw you walking away with your white cane in hand as you swung it side to side in front of you.
She felt like shit to say the least, what were the chances that she would yell at a person if they were blind and for them to actually be blind.
She didn't even get the chance to apologize and she couldn't follow you either as she was in a rush.
Over the next few days Hermione couldn't help but feel bad about the earlier interaction, it seemed to have consumed her mind as it slowly ate away at her knowing that she never even got the chance to apologize for being so insensitive.
"Hermione?! Hello are you listening? " Harry asked as she seemed not to be paying attention to their conversation as they walked down the hallway.
"Huh what?" Hermione asked as she snapped out of it. "What is up with you? It seems that every time I've seen you for the last few days, you've been staring off into space" Harry adds.
Hermione sighs deeply. "I just- actually hold that thought I need to do something," Hermione says, cutting herself off as she sees you sitting at one of the tables ahead.
She rushes off before Harry has the chance to ask further questions. Hermione slides into the chair in front of you, finally getting the chance to apologize.
"Have you come to yell at me again?" You ask with a chuckle. "I- wha- how did you know it was me?" Hermione asks, flabbergasted.
"Your scent," you say simply. You didn't think it likely that someone else would have this same peculiar scent. "I'm sure you've heard of the whole lose one sense and the others get heightened thing." You laugh.
Hermione didn't say anything for a while as she couldn't help but admire your smile, she stared at you for what probably would be an uncomfortable amount of time until you raised an eyebrow at her lack of response.
"Right- sorry. I actually came here to apologise," Hermione says finally and you hum in response.
"Have I lost my hearing too? Because I didn't hear an apology," you smirk after another while of silence. "You do realize saying you're going to apologise is not the same as apologising, right?" You ask her.
"Yes, I know that," Hermione says with a low laugh. "I was just thinking of how to phrase it considering the situation," Hermione admits.
"I can wait, I've nowhere to be, nothing to see," you joke. "You just love rubbing it in, don't you?" Hermione asks you palyfully as you keep joking about your lack of vision.
"Where else would I get my entertainment?" You ask sarcastically. "Look I-" Hermione starts before you cut her off by bursting into laughter.
"Shit," Hermione mumbles. "Bad choice of words," she realizes. "Clearly, I'm not very bright, I'll just say it, I'm sorry. I was having a bad day and I took it out on you. You didn't deserve to be screamed at regardless of the situation," Hermione says apologetically.
"I haven't been able to stop thinking about what an ass I was since it happened and I'm truly very sorry," Hermione adds.
"Hmm," you hum as you sit there pretending to think. "I really hope you can forgive me for being so insensitive and rude," Hermione pleads.
"I'll get back to you in 3-5 business days, you know since services seem to be slow considering my apology took some days to get here," you say keeping a straight face, pretending to consider your answer.
"I'm sorry," Hermione says sadly and you begin to feel a little bad for messing with her. Sure, it sucked to get yelled at, but it didn't really affect you beyond the initial interaction.
"I'm just playing with you. It's no big deal, really. This kind of stuff doesn't affect me anymore. I will say, though, I didn't particularly like getting yelled at for something that wasn't even my fault." You tell her.
"Thank you for accepting my apology," Hermione says happily. "I have to go now. I'll see you around." Hermione tells you.
"I'll see you around," you chuckle as she stands up, causing her to sigh with a giggle about yet another joke about your blindness. Though Hermione loved that you were able to joke about it as it meant you weren't at all affected by your condition.
"Don't think about me too much, since you've been doing that a lot lately," you say before she walks away, as Hermione had mentioned she was unable to stop thinking about your first interaction.
"Yeah as if" Hermione scoffs playfully, causing you to smile. Hermione carried on with her day and so did you.
Hermione felt relief having apologized for her words, yet she couldn't help but think of you during the following days. It wasn't as much as before she had the chance to apologize, but you'd still managed to creep up in her mind.
She was honestly captivated by your smile. Every time she had difficulties, she felt like it could all go away if she could just see you smile one more time.
