Chapter 21: Stepping Into the Spotlight

After a productive day in the studio, Y/N felt a surge of excitement. She wanted to share her new song with the world, even if it was just a little teaser. Sitting on her bed, she pulled out her phone, heart racing with anticipation as she opened her social media app.

“Okay, let’s do this,” she whispered to herself, setting up her camera. She took a moment to gather her thoughts, remembering how it felt to create.

With a bright smile, Y/N recorded a quick clip of herself strumming the opening chords and singing a few lines. Her voice was filled with emotion, hinting at the deeper themes without revealing too much. She felt proud as she captured a snapshot of her artistry.

After finishing the video, she watched it play back, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. It was just a teaser, but it felt like a big step. She quickly posted it, her heart pounding as she clicked “Share.”

But as soon as the post was live, a wave of anxiety washed over her. What if the comments were harsh? What if people didn’t get it? In a moment of impulse, she turned off her phone, placing it face down on her desk.

“Just a break,” she told herself, trying to shake off the unease.

Billie, who was sitting nearby, noticed Y/N’s sudden change in demeanor. She had seen the quick flicker of excitement in Y/N’s eyes, but the moment she shut off her phone, Billie felt a familiar knot tighten in her stomach. She decided to let it be for now, trusting that Y/N would open up when she was ready.

Just then, Billie’s phone buzzed with a call from her agent. She picked it up, her voice brightening as she answered. “Hey! What’s up?”

“Hi, Billie! I have a proposal,” her agent said. “We’re planning a fan meet-up soon and thought it would be great to have you, Finneas, and Y/N involved. It could be a good way to connect with fans and build excitement for your upcoming projects.”

Billie’s heart raced at the idea. “That sounds amazing! When were you thinking?”

“We can do it next weekend if that works. A casual gathering—Q&A sessions, some performances. It’ll be fun!”

As her agent outlined the details, Billie’s gaze flickered to Y/N’s closed phone. She hoped her sister would be ready for something like this. A fan meet-up could either be a boost or a burden for her, depending on how she was feeling.

After ending the call, Billie shared the news with Finneas. “So, we’ve got a fan meet-up next weekend! What do you think?”

Finneas looked thoughtful. “That could be great. But we should check in with Y/N. I don’t want her to feel overwhelmed.”

“I know,” Billie replied, her voice laced with concern. “Let’s give her some space for now. We can bring it up later.”

They spent the evening brainstorming ideas for the meet-up, but Billie couldn’t shake the feeling of worry. She wanted to make sure Y/N felt supported and included, especially after everything she had been through.

Later, as they prepared for bed, Billie quietly knocked on Y/N’s door. “Hey, just checking in. You good?”

“Yeah, I’m okay,” Y/N replied, her voice muffled. “Just trying to process everything.”

“Got it,” Billie said, sensing the hesitation in her sister’s tone. “Let me know if you want to talk or if you need anything.”

“Will do,” Y/N answered, grateful for Billie’s understanding.

As Billie closed the door, she felt a mix of hope and concern. She knew Y/N was taking steps to share her music, but she also knew the challenges that came with it. Whatever happened, Billie was determined to be there for her sister, every step of the way.
