The soft morning light poured into a cozy home in Hyderabad by filling the air with warmth. In a small prayer room, Krithi knelt before the idol of Goddess Saraswati with her heart filled with hope. Today was an important day for her. Her first semester exams for postgraduate medical studies were just hours away and she wanted all the blessings she could get.
With her hands pressed together in prayer room Krithi closed her eyes and whispered,
Krithi : Oh Goddess Saraswati, please give me the wisdom and strength to do well.
The air is smelling sweet with the fragrance of jasmine flowers adorning the goddess and are calming her nerves.
Just then her grandmother Padmamma entered the room. A soft smile is spread across her weathered face.
Padmamma : Krithi , my dear !
she said gently,
Padmamma : you are growing up so fast. I know you will make us proud.
Krithi turned to her grandmother . She touched her feet to seek blessings and replied,
Krithi : Thank you Nannamma ( paternal grandmother) . Your blessings mean everything to me.
As she moved to the dining table, the cheerful sounds of her parents reached her ears. Her mother Lakshmi was scolding her father Govind.
Lakshmi : If you keep this up, I might just have to sleep in the guest room !
Lakshmi told with hands on her hips.
Govind chuckled and spatted back,
Govind : Fine ! I'll also come along with you.
Krithi : Both of you please ! I need to focus !
Krithi interjected by feeling a mix of amusement and frustration. She rubbed her temples already feeling the pressure of the day ahead.
The breakfast spread looked delicious. The table was filled with soft idlis, steaming hot sambar and fresh coconut chutney. Krithi's stomach rumbled, but her mind was racing with thoughts of her upcoming exams.
Krithi : This looks amazing Amma ( mother ) !
she said as she sat down.
Lakshmi : Eat up, sweetheart. You'll need your strength today.
Lakshmi replied by serving her a generous portion.
After finishing her meal, Krithi stood up as she is ready to leave, but Lakshmi called out to her.
Lakshmi : Wait Krithi ! Krishna will drop you off today.
Krithi : Why ?
Krithi asked as she is surprised.
