As the night deepened, Krishna and Vrindha set off toward her village, the road illuminated only by the moonlight and the occasional flicker of headlights. The weight of the news hung heavily between them, and Vrindha's silence spoke volumes.

When they arrived, the atmosphere was somber. The small home was filled with mourners. Vrindha's parents, Parvathi and Shankar, her brother Arjun, and sister-in-law Subhadra, along with Uncle Ram and Aunt Vasudha. The room echoed with the sound of weeping, and villagers gathered outside, mourning the loss of a beloved matriarch.

Krishna felt his heart ache as he approached his mother-in-law, Parvathi. As soon as she saw him, she rushed into his arms, her body trembling with grief.

Parvathi : I can't believe she's gone, krishna .

she sobbed and the weight of her loss is evident in her voice.

Krishna : Shh, it's okay, Aunty. She is in better place.

Krishna whispered by trying to console her. He wrapped his arms around her, wishing he could take away her pain. Parvathi is extremely close to Krishna and she treats him as her own child.

Meanwhile, Krithi stayed close to Vrindha, who stood quietly and tears are streaming down her cheeks.  Krithi murmured some sweetnothings by wrapping her arm around her sister-in-law's shoulders.

Krithi : We're all here for you. Calm down Vrindha.

As the hours passed, the mourning continued. Krishna's attention was drawn to the sound of approaching vehicles. Soon after, his parents, Lakshmi and Govind arrived along with his grandmother Padmamma.

Lakshmi rushed towards  Parvathi and enveloped her in a tight embrace.

Lakshmi : I'm so sorry for your loss.

She said and her voice is choked with emotion.

Krishna's gaze shifted to his father, Govind. Their eyes locked for a moment. There was a mix of unspoken words and unresolved tension lingering in the air. But Govind quickly looked away, breaking the connection and retreating into the background.

The room remained heavy with sorrow, yet amid the grief, Krishna felt a sense of resolve. He was determined to be a pillar of support for Vrindha, knowing that this was just the beginning of a difficult journey for her and her family.

As the mournful atmosphere settled over Vrindha's home, the gathering grew heavier with each passing moment. Villagers whispered among themselves amd  their voices are low but filled with curiosity and concern. The unexpected arrival of Krishna and his family sparked murmurs that rippled through the crowd.

Villager 1  : Did you hear about their wedding ?

one villager remarked quietly by  glancing toward Krishna and Vrindha.

Villager 1 : It all happened so suddenly."

Villager 2 : Right ? It was such a hush-hush affair.

Another  replied by shaking their head.

Villager 2 : No one knew until it was done. It's not like Shankar and Parvathi approved of it. That boy's father is still not in talking terms it seems.

Krishna by overhearing snippets of the conversation felt a pang of discomfort. He glanced at Vrindha, whose face was still streaked with tears. She seemed oblivious to the whispers, her focus is solely on her grieving family.

Vasudha who heard those whispers spoke up, trying to quell the gossip.

Vasudha : Let's not talk about that now. This isn't the time for it. We're here to support each other through this loss.

But the curiosity lingered, and another voice chimed in,

Villager 3 : I understand, but it's unusual for them to marry without their families' blessing. It's bound to create waves.

Krishna took a deep breath, knowing that discussions like these could escalate quickly, especially in a small village where everyone knew each other's business. He moved closer to Vrindha by wrapping an arm around her shoulders. It was  a silent show of solidarity.

In the midst of the whispers, Parvathi noticed the tension and spoke up, her voice trembling slightly.

Parvathi : We're grateful for everyone's support during this time. Please, let's focus on honoring my mother's memory.

Her plea silenced the room for a moment, but the whispers resumed shortly after, mixed with sympathy and judgment.

Villager 4 : I hope they're happy together, despite everything.

one villager said by eyeing Krishna and Vrindha.

Villager 4 : They deserve a chance.

As the night wore on, Krishna's mind raced with thoughts. He wanted to confront the whispers, to make it clear that their love was real and not a secret to be gossiped about. But he knew this wasn't the moment for that. He needed to be there for Vrindha, who was now leaning against him by drawing comfort from his presence.

After some time, as more family and villagers arrived, the focus shifted back to the funeral preparations. The conversations ebbed and flowed by sometimes touching on the wedding, but mostly centered around the loss of Vrindha's grandmother. Krishna helped where he could, lending support to the family as they navigated their grief.

Despite the sorrow surrounding them, he felt a surge of determination. He would stand by Vrindha, defending their love against the rumors and offering her the strength she needed in this difficult time. In that moment, surrounded by whispers and grief, he silently vowed to protect her, no matter what.

How's the chapter ?

Have you ever seen such people who gossip about things that are totally unrelated to the occasion ?
