When Krishna stepped into his house, the atmosphere was thick with tension. His father, Govind, stood with his arms crossed, anger etched across his face. Krishna felt a mix of apprehension and defiance but walked in with his head held high, ignoring the simmering fury.
Govind : So, you're really getting married tomorrow ?
Krishna met his father's gaze, unyielding.
Krishna : Yes. All arrangements are done. By tomorrow afternoon, I'll be happily married to Vrindha.
Govind scoffed, the disdain evident in his tone.
Govind : You're ruining our reputation, Krishna ! Do you even understand the implications of what you're doing ? Because of you, my promise to Meera's father on his deathbed will be broken !
Krishna felt his blood boil at the mention of Meera, a girl he had never wanted to marry.
Krishna : You never mentioned Meera to me before ! Why is it suddenly a concern now ?
Govind stepped closer, his eyes blazing.
Govind : It's not just a concern. It's a matter of honour !
Krishna : Honour ? Point out one reason I should choose Meera over Vrindha other than that damn promise you made !
Silence fell between them and thick with unspoken truths. Govind opened his mouth to respond but faltered, realizing Krishna had a point.
Krishna : You're trying to dictate my life based on a promise made in a moment of grief. What about my happiness ? What about my choice ? Vrindha's grandmother just wished to see her granddaughter's wedding but she never persuaded anyone. A more than 80 years old is practical and understanding than you nanna.
Govind's anger flickered and is replaced by frustration.
Govind : You're too young to understand the weight of your decisions. This isn't just about you !
Krishna : But it is, Nanna ! It's about my life and who I want to share it with. You never considered my feelings when you made that promise !
Krishna's heart raced, the tension palpable. He felt a sense of liberation in standing up for himself, but the conflict with his father loomed large.
Govind : You're being selfish, Krishna. You're throwing away a future with someone who could bring stability to our family.
Krishna : Stability ? Or control ? You want me to live by your rules, and I refuse to. I love Vrindha, and I won't apologize for that.
The room grew quiet as they stared at each other, each man standing his ground.
Krishna : I respect you Nanna. but I need you to respect my choice. This isn't just a whim. it's my heart.
Govind's expression shifted, the anger giving way to a mix of concern and hurt.
Govind : I just want what's best for you...
Krishna : And so do I. But what's best for me is marrying the person I love, not fulfilling a promise made out of obligation.
With that, Krishna turned and walked toward his room, leaving Govind to wrestle with his own conflicted feelings. As he closed the door behind him, he felt a sense of peace despite the storm brewing outside. Tomorrow, he would marry Vrindha, and he was ready to fight for their love, no matter the cost.

Krishna woke up to the soft buzz of his alarm at 4 AM, the world still draped in the quiet of dawn. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he picked up his phone and saw a message from Arjun, wishing him luck for the day ahead. His heart raced with a mix of excitement and nerves. Today was the day he would marry Vrindha at her ancestral village temple—a place rich with history, built with love by her family decades ago.
After a refreshing shower, he walked to his closet and pulled out the traditional attire his mother, Lakshmi, had prepared for him. The kurta and panche ( vesthi ) embodying the significance of the day ahead. He grabbed his phone and made his way to his sister's room, excitement bubbling within him.
He knocked on the door, and after a few moments, Krithi opened it, her eyes bright with anticipation.
Krithi : Good morning bro ! I'm ready!
As she stepped aside, Lakshmi entered the room, carrying a few items needed for the wedding. Her face was a mix of joy and bittersweet acknowledgment of the circumstances.
Lakshmi : I had big plans for your wedding, Krishna. So many rituals, a celebration surrounded by family and friends... but given the situation, we're condensing everything into one day.
Krishna felt a pang of disappointment but understood the necessity of the changes.
Krishna : It's okay, Ma. What matters is that we're getting married.
Lakshmi nodded, her eyes glistening with pride and love.
Lakshmi : Just remember, this day is about you and Vrindha. Focus on your love and the commitment you're making.
Krishna smiled at her words, the warmth of her support wrapping around him like a comforting embrace.
Krithi : Plus, think of the stories we'll tell about this wedding someday ! "The wedding that defied tradition," or something like that !
Krishna : Right! More like "The wedding held in chaos," but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
As they prepared to leave, the excitement in the air became palpable. The sun began to rise, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink—a beautiful backdrop for the beginning of his new life.
Krishna took a moment to collect himself, breathing in the weight of the day. He knew challenges lay ahead, but he felt ready. With Vrindha by his side, he was certain they could face anything together. Lakshmi gathered all things.
Lakshmi : Let's not waste any more time! We need to get to the temple and finalize everything.
With that, they stepped out into the cool morning air, the promise of a new beginning ahead of them. Krishna felt a mix of nerves and excitement, but most importantly, he felt hope. Today would be the start of forever with the woman he loved.
