The next hearing of Roopa's case arrived, and the tension in the courtroom was palpable. Krishna entered with a renewed sense of purpose, the stakes are higher than ever. Roopa sat behind him and her eyes are  reflecting a mixture of anxiety and hope. As the judge took her seat, the gavel struck, signaling the start of what promised to be a pivotal day.

Judge : Court is in session.

the judge announced and her gaze sweeped over the room.

Judge : Mr. Krishna, you may proceed.

Krishna rose, exuding confidence.

Krishna : Your Honor, today we continue to seek justice for my client, Roopa. We will present additional evidence and witness testimonies that underscore the reality of the abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband.

He turned to Roopa's husband and his tone is sharpening.

Krishna : You stand accused of creating a life of fear and torment for Roopa. It's time to confront the truth.

The opposing lawyer interjected, attempting to regain control.

Opponent lawyer : Your Honor, my client denies these allegations and contends that Mrs. Roopa is exaggerating her claims.

Krishna shot a look at Roopa's husband.

Krishna : Exaggerating ? Let's examine the reality.

He said by raising his voice slightly.

Krishna : We have medical records detailing the injuries Roopa sustained. Injuries that are consistent with patterns of domestic violence. I would like to call forward our first witness.

The judge nodded, and the first witness, a close friend of Roopa's, took the stand. She spoke with emotion, recounting instances where she had seen Roopa with bruises and how  her spirit crushed under the weight of her husband's control.

Witness 1 : I watched as Roopa transformed from a vibrant woman into someone who barely recognised hersel.

she said and her voice is  trembling.

Krishna leaned into the narrative.

Krishna : Can you describe the impact of this abuse on Roopa's life ?

The friend hesitated, then replied,

Witness 1 : It was devastating. She was terrified to leave the house. She feared for her life.

Krishna turned back to Roopa's husband.

Krishna : How do you respond to these claims ? Are they also exaggerated ?

The husband's bravado faltered, but he managed to stammer,

Roopa's husband : I... I never meant to hurt her.
