1 WEEK LATER ,
The sterile, fluorescent lights flickered overhead as Krishna sat across the table from Vrindha. The weight of the room pressed down on him, thick with tension and unspoken truths. She wore her usual composed demeanour , but Krishna could see the subtle cracks in her facade.
Krishna : Vrindha, we both know why we're here.
He began and his voice is steady even though his heart raced. Talking to his wife when she is in the custody of government is making him feel devastated. The accusing fingers are pointed at his wife and she wantedly took the blame on herself hoping that justice will be served for others atleast because of that. He is struck in a situation where he should be more like a dedicated public prosecutor than being Vrindha's husband.
Krishna : The allegations against you are serious. You're being accused of colluding with that Minister in a scheme that's been bleeding our state dry.
Vrindha's gaze hardened, but he caught a flicker of something that's fear, perhaps ? Or was it anger ?
Vrindha : You know me better than that, Krishna. I've dedicated my life to serving this country. I would never compromise my values.
He leaned in closer by folding his arms on the table. He spoke with her as the other officials are spectating the cross investigation.
Krishna : And yet, the evidence suggests otherwise. Transfers, secret meetings... payments that can't be explained. How do you explain that ?
Her hands clenched into fists on the table, the only sign of her rising agitation.
Vrindha : You're a prosecutor. You understand the importance of due process. These are allegations, not convictions.
Krishna : Allegations backed by damning evidence.
He shot back and his frustration is mounting.
Krishna : How can I defend you if you won't even tell me the truth ?
For a moment, silence hung between them, heavy and electric. Vrindha's defenses began to crumble as she looked into his eyes.
Vrindha : Krishna, if I were guilty, don't you think I would have fled ? I would have done anything to avoid this. But I'm here... because I trust you. I was being used by him for diverting the case and making you loose your composure.
Her words struck a chord, a reminder of their shared dreams and the life they had built together. But Krishna had a duty to uphold the law, even when it meant questioning the one he loved most.
Krishna : I need you to help me.
He said softly like a plea masked in his role as interrogator.
Krishna : Tell me the truth. If you're innocent, I'll fight for you. But I can't defend a lie.
Vrindha's gaze dropped to the table, the weight of the moment crashing down on her.
Vrindha : I can't... I can't say anything without putting others in danger.
Krishna's heart sank.
Krishna : You're not just putting yourself in danger. you're putting us all at risk. This isn't just about you anymore.
The room was filled with the echoes of their shared history, love turned to suspicion. With every passing second, the chasm between them widened, the implications of her silence growing heavier.
Finally vrindha decided to explain everything. She confessed everything that made krishna horrified and the other officials to feel guilty for accusing Vrindha.
................
The tension in the courtroom was palpable as Vrindha stood at the center of the drama with her heart pounding like a drum. The bright lights above cast a stark glow on her face making her feel exposed and vulnerable. As an IAS officer, she had fought tirelessly for justice yet now she found herself on the wrong side of it as one of the accused of corruption in a high-profile case that had gripped the nation.
Across the aisle, Krishna, her husband and the public prosecutor stood resolute. The man who once promised to support her dreams now wielded his legal expertise like a sword which is ready to cut through the web of lies that had ensnared her. He was determined to win, not just for the sake of his career, but for the truth and for justice. Yet, as he met her gaze, a flicker of sorrow crossed his eyes by mingling with his unwavering resolve.
Krishna : Your Honor !
Krishna began with his voice steady and authoritative,
Krishna : the evidence clearly shows that the defendant has exploited her position for helping the Accused in this case.
The words struck like a physical blow, echoing in the silence of the courtroom.
Vrindha's breath hitched as she fought to keep her composure. Memories flooded her mind. the late nights spent drafting policies, the countless meetings advocating for the vulnerable, the dreams she had built. How had it come to this ? Why people turned against her ? Why her own husband isn't ready to listen to her words ?
As witnesses took the stand and evidence was presented, every word felt like a dagger aimed at her heart. With each accusation, the reality of her situation deepened. the walls of the courtroom were closing in and the love that once united her and Krishna now felt like an insurmountable barrier.
Judge : After cross checking everything , I've decided to scheduled the next hearing on coming Wednesday. We need more proofs that explain Mrs.Vrindha's involvement. The evidences against Mrs.Vrindha are extremely weak. She don't have a standard signature. She just writes her name in a interwoven style. It can be copied easily.
Krishna nodded by glancing at Vrindha for a brief moment.
The gavel struck, and silence fell, but within Vrindha, a fire ignited. She would fight. not just for her innocence, but for the love that had once filled their hearts.
Outside the courtroom, a storm brewed in the Hyderabad sky, mirroring the turmoil within. With her life and career hanging in the balance, Vrindha realized that this battle would not just determine her fate, but also test the very foundation of their love.
