CHAPTER 07: Collision of Heroes
The air in the training room was tense, thick with the sounds of explosions and the rush of movement. You could feel your heart racing in your chest as you fought to keep up with Bakugo, who was already charging ahead, his explosions lighting up the dimly lit corridors of the mock building. Your focus wavered, but you knew you couldn’t let it. Not now.
"Don’t fall behind, Waterworks!" Bakugo shouted over his shoulder, his voice sharp and impatient. He didn’t even turn to see if you were following him, his confidence blinding him to the fact that this was supposed to be a team exercise.
You gritted your teeth, doing your best to summon the water from the pipes along the walls, but it felt sluggish, resisting your control. The pressure of the situation—of trying to keep up with Bakugo—was making it harder to concentrate, harder to breathe.
Come on, you urged yourself, focus.
Midoriya and Uraraka were out there, moving through the building with a purpose, strategizing. And here you were, falling behind Bakugo, unsure of where you fit into the plan—if there even was one. Bakugo wasn’t exactly the type to stop and strategize. His plan seemed to be straightforward: blow everything up and win.
"Where’s Deku?" Bakugo growled, glancing down the corridor. You could see the familiar edge in his expression, the same fiery intensity that seemed to burn inside him whenever Midoriya was mentioned. The history between them was still a mystery to you, but it was obvious from Bakugo’s seething anger that there was a lot more to this than just a simple rivalry.
---
The tension between Bakugo and Midoriya had been brewing since they arrived at U.A., and now it was about to boil over. Midoriya had been cautious during their first few days of class, always keeping his distance, but Bakugo had never let him forget their history. You remembered hearing whispers about their middle school days—about how Midoriya had always been on the receiving end of Bakugo’s anger.
It wasn’t hard to believe, especially seeing how Bakugo reacted now. He was practically hunting Midoriya, driven by something more than just competition.
And then it happened.
A sudden movement in the shadows caught Bakugo’s attention, and before you could even react, he launched himself forward with a deafening explosion. "Found you, Deku!"
Midoriya emerged from the smoke, his eyes wide, but his expression quickly shifted into one of determination. He was ready. He had been preparing for this moment since the battle began.
"Bakugo—wait!" you called out, but it was no use. Bakugo was already too far gone, completely consumed by the thought of defeating Midoriya. There was no stopping him now.
---
The next few moments happened in a blur.
Bakugo and Midoriya collided, the sound of explosions ringing in your ears. You could see Midoriya trying to avoid Bakugo’s attacks, using his agility and quick reflexes to dodge the blasts, but it was clear that he was holding back. He wasn’t using his quirk—he was trying to fight Bakugo without it.
Why isn’t he fighting back? you wondered, your heart pounding in your chest. Midoriya had the power to level the playing field, but he was choosing not to use it. Was it because he didn’t want to hurt Bakugo? Or was there something deeper at play?
Whatever the reason, it only seemed to fuel Bakugo’s rage. "What’s wrong, Deku?!" Bakugo yelled, his voice dripping with venom. "Too scared to use that quirk of yours?"
Midoriya didn’t answer, his focus entirely on dodging the relentless barrage of explosions. You could see the strain in his movements, the way his body tensed with every blast. He was giving it everything he had, but it was clear he was reaching his limit.
"Bakugo!" you shouted again, your voice barely cutting through the chaos. You could feel the water beneath your feet, ready to respond, but you hesitated. What could you do? You couldn’t get between them, and your quirk—your control—wasn’t nearly strong enough to stop Bakugo.
"Stay out of this, Waterworks!" Bakugo snapped, his fiery gaze briefly flicking in your direction. "I don’t need your help!"
The words stung, but they also gave you the clarity you needed. Bakugo wasn’t going to listen. He never did when it came to Midoriya. This was personal for him—something that went far beyond a simple battle trial. But you were here for a reason. You couldn’t just stand back and watch. You had to do something.
Your focus shifted back to Midoriya, and in that moment, you saw it—the resolve in his eyes. He wasn’t going to let Bakugo win, not like this. And despite everything, you found yourself rooting for him. He had been kind to you, offering encouragement when you were struggling, and now it was your turn to help.
With a deep breath, you called the water to you, feeling it surge beneath your control. It wasn’t perfect—it never was—but you couldn’t afford to second-guess yourself now. Not with everything on the line.
The water coiled around your arms, cold and fluid, ready to strike. You aimed for the space between Bakugo and Midoriya, hoping to create enough of a distraction to give Midoriya the chance to counter. The water shot forward in a sharp arc, splitting the air with a hiss.
It wasn’t enough to stop Bakugo, but it was enough to catch his attention. He stumbled for a brief moment, his eyes flicking toward you, and in that instant, Midoriya made his move.
He lunged forward, faster than you’d ever seen him move, and with a single punch—using just enough of his quirk to give him an edge—he sent Bakugo flying backward, crashing into the wall with a thunderous impact.
For a split second, everything went still.
Midoriya stood, panting, his eyes wide as he stared at the aftermath of the collision. His fist trembled at his side, the faint glow of his quirk fading from his skin. He hadn’t used all of his power—just enough to turn the tide of the battle. But even then, the strain on his body was obvious.
Bakugo groaned from where he had landed, his fiery glare cutting through the smoke and debris. "Deku," he growled, pushing himself up, but he didn’t charge forward this time. The damage had been done—both to the room and to his pride.
You took a step back, the water slipping from your grasp as the reality of the situation sank in. The battle was over, but the tension between Bakugo and Midoriya was far from resolved. You could see it in the way Bakugo’s fists clenched, the way Midoriya stood, unsure of what to say.
All Might’s voice echoed through the training room’s speakers, cutting through the silence. "And that concludes the exercise! Midoriya and Uraraka are the winners of this trial!"
You exhaled, your body sagging with exhaustion and relief. It was over. You hadn’t been able to do much, but at least the trial had ended without further escalation.
But as you looked at Bakugo’s expression, you knew this was only the beginning.

A/N: Word Count: ~1,290 words, Whew, that was a lot of tension! Poor Y/N—being paired with Bakugo is no easy task, and her struggle to keep up really showed here. But we all are here for drama, at least I hope some of you are lol. Next chapter will focus more on the aftermath of the trial and how Bakugo and Midoriya’s clash affects the class dynamics. Stay tuned for some character development and, hopefully, some growth for Y/N!
