CHAPTER 50: A New Challenge Awaits
The sun filtered through the windows of the training gym, casting bright beams of light that danced across the floor where Class 1-A gathered. Excitement and anticipation filled the air as students prepared for the upcoming provisional license exam. You stood at the edge of the gym, taking a moment to observe your classmates as they discussed strategies, their voices a mix of laughter and competitive banter. It felt invigorating, yet you couldn’t shake the nerves that fluttered in your stomach.
“Hey, Mizushima!” Midoriya called out, waving you over with a bright smile. His enthusiasm was contagious, and you felt a small smile tug at your lips as you approached him. “We were just talking about our training plans for the exam. Have you figured out how you want to approach your quirk’s other forms?”
You nodded, the familiar mix of nerves and excitement swirling inside you. “Yeah, I’ve been trying to focus on ice manipulation. I think if I can master that, it’ll really enhance my water control during the exam. I want to surprise everyone.”
“Sounds like a solid plan! If you need help, I’d be more than happy to train with you,” Midoriya offered, his green eyes shining with determination.
“Thanks, I might take you up on that,” you replied, feeling a rush of warmth at his kindness. The idea of training alongside him filled you with a sense of possibility. Maybe you could push your abilities further than you ever imagined.
As the class settled into their training, you glanced around the gym, your eyes landing on Todoroki. He was effortlessly manipulating ice, creating intricate structures that sparkled in the sunlight like fragile sculptures. You watched in awe, captivated by the fluidity of his movements and the precision with which he wielded his quirk. A pang of admiration mixed with a hint of envy washed over you. If you could harness the ice aspect of your quirk, you could create something just as beautiful and powerful.
“Why don’t you give it a shot?” a voice chimed in, pulling you from your thoughts. It was Momo, her gaze encouraging as she approached with a confident stride. “I know you’ve been working on it. Maybe practicing with Todoroki could help?”
You hesitated, glancing back at Todoroki, who was still immersed in his training. “I don’t want to interrupt him,” you said, your shyness creeping back in.
Momo shook her head with a gentle smile. “He’s always willing to help others. Plus, it might be a great opportunity to learn from him! He’s the best at ice manipulation in our class.”
Taking a deep breath, you steeled yourself against your apprehension. The thought of approaching Todoroki both excited and terrified you. You had always admired his strength, and the idea of asking him for help felt monumental. With a determined nod, you stepped forward.
As you approached Todoroki, he looked up and acknowledged you with a slight nod, his expression neutral but attentive. “Hey, Todoroki. Would you mind showing me some techniques for using ice?” you asked, your voice steadying with each word.
“Sure,” he replied simply, his tone calm yet welcoming. “What have you practiced so far?”
You explained your attempts at creating ice barriers and manipulating the shape of ice, feeling the familiar surge of determination as you spoke. “I can form small ice barriers, but they’re not very strong. I want to create something more substantial—something I can rely on during the exam.”
Todoroki listened intently, nodding in understanding. “Let’s start with the basics,” he suggested, demonstrating how to create a simple ice wall with a flick of his wrist. The ice formed instantly, solid and formidable, reflecting the sunlight in a brilliant display.
