CHAPTER 16: Forming a Team
The first round of the Sports Festival had ended, and you were still riding the high of placing fourth in the Obstacle Race. The thrill of competition, the roar of the crowd, and the feeling of pushing yourself to your limits had left you energized and more determined than ever. But as the next event was announced, your nerves began to creep back in.
The Cavalry Battle.
You stood with your classmates on the field as Midnight explained the rules. The concept was simple—teams of two to four people would form a cavalry, with one person as the rider and the others acting as the horses. Each team would be given headbands worth different points based on their placement in the previous round, and the goal was to steal as many headbands as possible while protecting your own.
But the twist? The headband given to Midoriya, as the first-place winner of the obstacle race, was worth a staggering ten million points. Instantly, every team in the arena would be gunning for him.
Your own headband, as a fourth-place finisher, was worth a significant number of points as well—not as many as Midoriya’s, but still enough to make you a target. You glanced around at your classmates, wondering who would approach you for a team. Forming alliances in this kind of event was key, but you also knew that the right combination of quirks could make or break a team.
Midoriya, standing nearby, was already looking nervous as multiple students began to approach him. The ten million point headband on his forehead made him a walking target, and you didn’t envy his position.
---
"You’re gonna need a strong team for this," a voice interrupted your thoughts, and you turned to see Uraraka standing beside you, her expression serious. "Have you thought about who you want to work with?"
You hesitated, scanning the field. Several students were already forming teams, and you knew you had to act quickly. "I… haven’t decided yet," you admitted. "But I need a group that can make up for my weaknesses."
"Then join us."
You blinked in surprise as Todoroki stepped forward, his usual calm demeanor masking the intensity in his mismatched eyes. "I’m forming a team, and I need people I can trust."
Todoroki’s presence immediately made your heart skip a beat. He was one of the top contenders, and having him on your team would certainly give you an advantage. But Todoroki wasn’t just asking anyone. He was choosing you because he saw potential in your quirk.
Before you could respond, Iida appeared at Todoroki’s side. "I’ll be part of this team as well," he said, adjusting his glasses. "We’ll need speed and control if we want to succeed in this event."
But they weren’t the only ones.
Kaminari strode up, his usual carefree grin lighting up his face. "Count me in! My electricity can give us some shock value if anyone gets too close."
Todoroki gave a brief nod. "Fine. With my ice, Iida’s speed, Kaminari’s quirk, and Mizushima’s water control, we should have a good balance of offense and defense."
Your team was shaping up quickly, and you felt a surge of excitement. Todoroki, Iida, Kaminari, and you—each of you brought something valuable to the table. Todoroki’s powerful ice quirk, Iida’s speed, Kaminari’s electricity, and your water manipulation could work well together. But you knew that the cavalry battle required more than just strong quirks. It required coordination and trust.
"Are you in?" Todoroki asked, his voice steady but firm.
You nodded, the decision coming easily. "I’m in."
