CHAPTER 98: The Shadow of the League
The city has fallen into an unforgiving silence.
Once filled with laughter and the hum of everyday life, it now lies beneath a heavy, suffocating blanket of smoke. The once-pristine skyline, where skyscrapers once reached for the stars, is now nothing more than shattered remnants—fractured, burning, broken.
In the air, a sickly orange glow stains the horizon, casting long, grotesque shadows over the wreckage. The cries of civilians, the wails of fear, the sounds of destruction—they fill the space, drowning everything in their wake. Explosions ripple across the streets, their reverberations tearing through the fragile remnants of what was. The world itself feels like it's crumbling under the weight of everything that has come before.
But still, you stand.
Even as your body shakes from exhaustion, your limbs heavy with the weight of every battle, every blow, every sacrifice made by your classmates and heroes who have given everything—they fight for the world. The world you promised to protect. You can’t stop. Not now. Not when it feels like everything you’ve fought for, everything you’ve bled for, is slipping through your fingers.
Your breath is ragged. The smoke stings your eyes. Your heart is a thunderous drumbeat in your chest, its rhythm an unbearable reminder of everything at stake. You can’t think, can’t afford to lose focus. The next attack is already coming. A Nomu. Its massive arm swings at you with terrifying speed, and your instincts roar to life just as your muscles scream in protest. A wave of water surges from the earth beneath your feet, rising to shield you, to deflect the beast's vicious attack.
But it’s not enough.
The beast stumbles back, but it doesn’t fall. The water crashes into its body, but the creature remains standing. It’s relentless. It’s—too much.
"Come on!" you grit out, barely holding back the flood of panic threatening to rise. "I can’t… I can’t keep up like this."
You push forward, trying to summon more power. But it feels like it’s draining from you, like the very life force in you is slipping away with every moment. The League of Villains didn’t come to play. They didn’t come for a fight. They came for destruction. For death. For everything you’ve ever known.
Your boyfriend and classmates—Izuku, Katsuki, Shoto—they’re all pushing themselves to the limit. Izuku is grappling with Shigaraki, every blow landing with a sickening crunch, but it’s as if Shigaraki barely notices. Katsuki’s explosions are deafening, lighting up the sky like flashes of lightning, but even his sheer rage isn’t enough to overpower the oncoming wave of Nomu. Shoto is creating ice barriers as quickly as he can, but even his freezing abilities are starting to buckle under the pressure.
The weight of this battle presses down on you like a thousand-pound stone. Every step you take feels heavier than the last. You’re not just fighting for survival anymore. You’re fighting for the people you love. For everything you care about. And yet, every second, every battle, feels like a step toward failure. The terrifying truth gnaws at your insides like a constant whisper:
You might lose it all.
The thought shatters through your mind as another Nomu barrels toward you. Your body moves instinctively—your quirk flaring to life again—but this time, the water you summon isn’t enough. The beast crashes through it like it’s nothing. You stumble backward, adrenaline surging as the world blurs around you.
"Not like this," you whisper to yourself, your voice hoarse with exhaustion. The water in the air feels heavier, more suffocating. You can’t keep fighting like this. You just can’t. Not anymore.
