CHAPTER 81: Mushrooms and Mayhem
The buzzer sounded, signaling the end of the battle between the first teams from Class A and Class B. The field settled, with the echoes of combat slowly fading, leaving only the excited murmurs of students observing from the sidelines.
You watched as Team A regrouped, their breaths heavy but their expressions triumphant. Denki clapped his teammates on the back, grinning despite the strain evident in his posture. Tsuyu’s steady breathing returned to normal, though her eyes still held a glimmer of intensity. Eijiro’s hardened exterior softened as he relaxed, his shoulders slumping with fatigue.
Shinso, standing slightly apart from the others, looked thoughtful. He flexed his hands, likely considering how he could refine his use of the binding cloth Aizawa had taught him to wield.
From the sidelines, murmurs broke out as the other students reacted to the outcome.
"That was incredible," you heard Ochaco say, her eyes shining with admiration as she watched the victorious team. “I didn’t realize Shinso could manipulate opponents like that!”
Izuku nodded beside her, his expression both impressed and thoughtful. "Yeah, his brainwashing quirk really shone there. Team A did well using his quirk to get the upper hand, but Class B put up a tough fight too. That shockwave Jurota used was powerful.”
Shoto stood quietly nearby, his eyes narrowed as he analyzed the battlefield. “It was strategic, especially how they made use of Shinso. That quirk could be a game-changer, especially with the right coordination.”
From across the field, Monoma, Class B's outspoken member, was already rallying his classmates with an indignant huff. "Class A got lucky!" he declared, clearly not one to let a single defeat dampen his pride in Class B. "Just wait until the next round!"
Kendo rolled her eyes but gave Monoma a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Come on, Monoma, let’s save the trash talk until after our own match," she said with a confident smile. “We’ve got to focus if we’re going to beat them.”
“Focus?” Monoma replied with a smirk, crossing his arms. “I’m always focused, Kendo.”
You glanced over at Shinso, catching his gaze, and gave him a small nod. He nodded back, expression guarded, but a flicker of appreciation showed in his eyes.
As the teams made their way off the field, Aizawa stepped forward, calling attention to the next set of competitors. “All right, good work to Team 1. We’ll take a short break, and then we’ll have Team 2 prepare for the next match.”
The students in Team 2—Fumikage Tokoyami, Toru Hagakure, Momo Yaoyorozu, and Yuga Aoyama from Class A and Shihai Kuroiro, Kinoko Komori, Manga Fukidashi, and Itsuka Kendo from Class B—gathered, exchanging focused nods. Momo, as usual, had a look of calm determination on her face, and Tokoyami's expression was as intense as ever, his eyes focused as he considered the upcoming fight.
“Ready for this, Momo?” you asked, giving her an encouraging smile.
She nodded, her gaze steady. “Yes, I’ve been thinking about different strategies we could use. This team is strong, and Kendo has incredible reflexes, but I believe we can match them.”
“I’ll make sure they feel the wrath of my Dark Shadow,” Tokoyami added, his voice low and serious. At his side, Dark Shadow materialized, its crimson eyes gleaming with eagerness.
"Dark Shadow always gets me hyped!" Denki called from the sidelines, grinning as he watched Tokoyami psych up for the match.
“Let’s hope Class B is prepared,” Momo murmured, looking over at their soon-to-be opponents.
