CHAPTER 32: Facing Adversity

The start of the seventh match between Kyouka Jiro and Koji Koda against Present Mic was filled with tension. The moment they stepped into the forested arena, Present Mic's voice echoed through the air with an intensity that sent shivers down their spines.

"Let's crank this up to eleven!" Present Mic's booming voice rang out, immediately unleashing his Quirk, Voice, with a deafening sound wave that shook the trees and ground around them. The force of his voice alone created visible shockwaves in the air, and Kyouka and Koda were forced to cover their ears, struggling to move forward against the overwhelming power of the sound.

Kyouka winced, her ears already starting to ring. "We need to head for the escape gate, but there's no way we can get there with him blasting us like this!" she shouted to Koda over the noise. She could feel her eardrums straining under the pressure.

Koda, already trembling, looked around nervously. "I... I can't do this!" he stammered, his fear of Present Mic's overwhelming power and the sheer volume of his attacks making him hesitate.

"Koda, we have to!" Kyouka yelled, barely able to hear her own voice over the barrage of sound waves. "I need you to use your Quirk-call on the birds, or... anything!"

Koda shook his head, the fear evident in his wide eyes. "Birds won't work! They'll just get blown away by his voice!" His trembling was becoming more intense, and Kyouka realized that the intensity of Present Mic's attacks was causing him to freeze in place.

Kyouka's heart pounded as the relentless sound waves pounded into them. She could feel her eardrums starting to bleed, and she knew they wouldn't last much longer if they stayed in the open. She had to come up with something fast, but her mind was racing, clouded by the pain and the constant noise.

Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed an ant crawling on the ground, completely unaffected by the sound waves. Inspiration struck, and she turned to Koda, shouting as loudly as she could. "Koda! Bugs! The sound doesn't reach underground!"

Koda face drained of color. "B-Bugs?! I-I can't handle bugs!" His fear of insects made him instinctively recoil.

"We don't have a choice!" Kyouka pleaded, her voice raw from shouting. She could see blood trickling from her own ears and knew time was running out. "We won't be able to make it unless you use them. Please, Koji, I need you!"

Koda's eyes widened as he saw the pain Kyouka was in. He remembered his time during the entrance exam, how he had barely made it through by running away. But now... he couldn't let Kyouka down. He couldn't let himself down. He had to push past his fear.

Taking a deep breath, Koda clenched his fists, fighting against the overwhelming dread that filled him. "I... I'll try!" he said shakily. Closing his eyes, he activated his Anivoice Quirk, reaching out to the creatures hidden beneath the ground. "Come on, come on..." he whispered, his voice trembling.

From beneath the forest floor, a swarm of ants, beetles, and other insects began to rise, moving silently beneath the soil. Kyouka watched in awe as the bugs started to emerge, tunneling through the dirt where the sound waves couldn't reach. They moved toward Present Mic, undeterred by the noise above ground.

"Koda, you're doing it!" Kyouka exclaimed, her voice filled with relief. She watched as the bugs moved closer to Present Mic, ready to attack from where he couldn't defend himself.

Present Mic, still blasting sound waves through the forest, was caught off guard when he suddenly felt the ground beneath him shift. Before he could react, the swarm of bugs crawled up from the soil, attacking him from all sides. His voice faltered as he tried to shake them off, the insects overwhelming him with their sheer numbers.
