CHAPTER 66: Unleashing Potential
You sit in the classroom of U.A. High School, the usual chatter of your classmates filling the air. Today, however, feels different. Aizawa-sensei has an unusual seriousness about him, his long scarf wrapped tightly around his neck as he stares down at the class with a piercing gaze.
“Listen up,” he begins, his voice low and gravelly. “We have an important announcement regarding the next phase of your training.”
You exchange glances with your classmates, excitement and curiosity brewing in your chest. Midoriya, seated next to you, leans in closer, whispering, “I wonder what it could be. Maybe an internship?” His eyes gleam with determination.
Aizawa clears his throat, catching everyone’s attention again. “You will be participating in a Work Studies program. This will be your opportunity to gain real-world experience alongside professional heroes. You’ll be evaluated on your performance, so take this seriously.”
A wave of energy ripples through the room. Your heart races at the thought of working alongside heroes, a chance to prove yourself. The classroom buzzes with excitement, students murmuring amongst themselves about who they hope to work with.
As Aizawa continues explaining the program, you can’t help but think of how this could impact your journey as a hero. Would you finally be able to master your Quirk? Could this be your chance to showcase your abilities to Izuku and the others?
“Tomorrow, you’ll be meeting the Big Three and starting your training with them,” Aizawa concludes, his tone serious. “They’re some of the top students at U.A., so expect intense sessions. And don’t forget, you’ll also be evaluated by them—this is your chance to show what you’re capable of in a real-world setting. Be ready for anything.”
With that, he dismisses the class, and you feel a mix of anxiety and anticipation bubbling within you. As everyone files out, you catch Izuku’s eye. “Are you ready for this?” you ask, your heart pounding at the thought of being evaluated.
He nods vigorously, his enthusiasm infectious. “Definitely! This is a huge opportunity. I just hope I can keep up.”
The next day arrives, and you gather with your classmates in front of U.A. The atmosphere is electric as everyone discusses the upcoming challenges. You stand with Izuku, and the two of you share theories about what to expect.
“I heard Mirio Togata is part of the Big Three,” Izuku says, a hint of admiration in his voice. “He’s incredible. I wonder how he’ll evaluate us.”
You nod, recalling the stories you've heard about the Big Three—the strongest students in U.A. You can’t shake the feeling of nervousness about facing them. What if you didn’t measure up?
As you approach the training ground, the massive area is alive with activity. Aizawa stands at the entrance, flanked by three students you recognize immediately. The tall, blond-haired boy with a friendly smile is Mirio Togata. Next to him is a girl with vibrant, curly hair—Nejire Hado. The last is Tamaki Amajiki, who seems more reserved, his eyes darting nervously.
“Welcome,” Mirio calls out, his voice bright and encouraging. “We’re the Big Three! Today, we’re going to test your skills and see where everyone stands. The goal is to push you beyond your limits!”
You feel a flutter of anxiety, but it’s mixed with excitement. This is your chance to show what you’re made of.
“First, we’ll have one-on-one evaluations,” Mirio continues. “I’ll be the one to test each of you. Let’s see how well you handle yourself in a fight!”
As your classmates step forward one by one, you watch intently, taking notes on their strategies and techniques. Izuku goes before you, and you watch him engage with Mirio. It’s incredible to see how determined he is, using his abilities with finesse, but Mirio seems to effortlessly counter him with his Quirk, Permeation.
When it’s your turn, you step into the arena, heart racing. Mirio’s grin is disarming as he nods at you. “Ready when you are, Mizushima!”
You take a deep breath, feeling the water inside you stir, ready to flow at your command. “I’m ready!” you reply, your voice firm.
Mirio charges forward, and you quickly react, conjuring a stream of water to form a barrier. But he phases through it, his form becoming translucent, and appears behind you. You twist around, instinctively sending a wave of water towards him, but he evades it with ease.
“Good reflexes!” Mirio cheers, but you can sense the challenge in his voice. You realize that to impress him, you’ll need to think creatively.
As the spar continues, you begin to test your Quirk, using your water manipulation not just defensively but offensively, shaping the water into different forms. Mirio seems impressed as you launch a series of water blasts at him. To your surprise, you find yourself adapting quickly, moving in sync with your abilities.
Suddenly, you decide to attempt something more daring. Channeling your water Quirk, you create a large wave, aiming to sweep Mirio off his feet. To your shock, it actually catches him off guard, and he stumbles back momentarily.
“That’s the spirit!” Mirio laughs, clearly enjoying the challenge. “You’re stronger than you think!”
You can’t help but smile, the rush of adrenaline pushing you forward. As you engage in this playful but intense fight, you realize how much you’ve grown. Your heart swells with pride, and for a moment, you forget about the pressure. You’re here, fighting alongside some of the strongest heroes.
After several intense exchanges, Mirio finally phases out, appearing above you. “Great job, Mizushima! You’ve got a lot of potential. Keep honing your skills, and you’ll go far.”
You feel a surge of excitement at his words. The validation from someone so powerful ignites a fire within you, and you know that you can’t stop here.
As the evaluations continue, you watch your classmates face off against Mirio, each of them giving it their all. You can see how each person brings their unique style to the fight, and it fills you with determination to keep improving.
When the evaluations conclude, Aizawa calls everyone back together. “You’ve all done well. Remember, the goal of this Work Studies program is to learn from the best and grow stronger. We expect you to take this seriously.”
With that, Aizawa dismisses the class, and you step out of the arena, heart racing from the experience. You find Izuku nearby, and his eyes are bright with excitement.
“That was amazing!” he exclaims. “You did great out there!”
“Thanks!” you reply, still buzzing from the encounter. “Mirio is incredible. I can’t believe I actually managed to push him a bit.”
As you and Izuku walk away, you share thoughts on the day’s challenges and what you hope to accomplish during the Work Studies. You can feel a growing bond between you, and it fills you with warmth. This is just the beginning of your journey, and you can’t wait to see where it leads.
With the promise of more challenges ahead, you feel a sense of purpose igniting in your chest. You’re ready to face whatever comes next, alongside your friends and classmates. Together, you’ll push through your limits and become the heroes you’re destined to be.
