Description:
Marinette stood inside the dungeon. She knew it was hopeless to try to escape. She longed to see the outside once more. Even if only for a moment. She could barely see a thing. The small window barely provided light.
A boy, Adrien, stood outside the dungeon cell. The door was gigantic with bars over it. What sort of place was this? Why did it exist? Who was on the other side?
Marinette's perspective:
I awoke inside my cell as usual. The small space was lonely and boring. I know it wasn't meant to be fun. I was a prisoner within the palace. The only thing was, I did not know why. I had no idea when I arrived here.
Had I been here for weeks, months, or years? I sighed. I longed to be outside. Could someone please let me go out there? I wished to see the sunshine. I longed to feel the breeze upon my skin, to sniff the flowers, and hear the birds sing.
I suppose maybe I had done something bad. What was it? Was it truly that awful? No one had spoken about it to me. Not even once. At least, not that I remember.
I heard someone approach the door. Why didn't they open it?
"Hello, is someone inside?" I heard a voice say.
"Yes, what of it?" I called out.
"Mind telling me, what is this place?" The voice asked.
"It is a place of punishment. It is a dungeon," I replied.
"A dungeon, why that sounds dreadful," The boy said.
"Ah, it is dreadful."
"Oh, I am sorry."
"It is not your fault, I am here, at least I don't think so anyway," I said.
"Who are you?" The boy asked.
"Marinette, and you are?" I asked. "The name's Adrien, Adrien Agreste."
"Adrien, as in the prince?" I shouted.
"Yes, the very one," He said.
I frowned. Leave it to me to have the prince be the one to pass by my door.
Some good that did me.
"Marinette, you okay?" he asked. "Yes, and you?" I asked. "Yes, splendid," He said.
"Prince Adrien?" someone called. "Sorry, I must go," He said.
I was sad to hear him walk away. I had hoped to make a friend.
Who was I kidding? As if I could ever be his friend, me in these shackles, being a friend to the prince. I was in a dreamland if I thought that could ever happen.
I sighed. I sat on the floor. The only furniture in the room was a broken chair and a cracked table. I only had a few rodents to keep me company. Of course, they mostly ate the crumbs from the scraps I was given. This only happened when someone remembered to feed me. Too bad, it was not every day. I recalled having gone without food for almost a week once. Water, however dirty it was, was given daily. I suppose they did not wish to kill me from dehydration then.
A few days passed, and I had not heard from anyone. I suppose it was for the best, it was not like I would ever get out of here. I would be destined to die here without ever seeing the light of day again.
