Description:
Adrien was shocked. He had received a telegram with bad news. It was about his girlfriend, Kagami. She was dead. The message said to come at once. Details will be explained later.
Adrien's POV:
I could not believe it. Today was Kagami's twenty-first birthday. It was meant to be full of excitement, good tidings, and blessings. Instead, it was the day he felt like he might vomit, faint, or even freak out. The words of the telegram still troubled him. It simply read, "To Adrien Agreste, stop...I am sorry to tell you such horrid news. Stop. Kagami Tsurugi has been a train wreck and she did not make it. Stop. Please arrive at once. Stop. More details to come. Stop."
I shook my head. Kagami could not be dead. This had to be some cruel prank. That was it. There was no way she was lying dead inside some crumpled wreckage of the train that was taking her to him for her birthday celebration. Well, it was not very funny. I felt tears fall that I did not even know I had. I never loved her, but she was my friend. I had been forced to date her since her mother and my father approved of the relationship. I was still stunned that she had met such a miserable end.
The girl was never cruel to me. I tried to make her happy. Sometimes, I suspected she knew I could never be romantic with her. I never kissed her. What was I to do now? I could not bring myself to tell anyone. I had not told anyone other than Nino I was dating her because the circumstances were unusual. He had agreed to keep it a secret. I am sure this was not easy for him since he was dating Alya and was used to sharing almost everything with her. Marinette must have overheard me share the news with Nino because she became a different girl after this.
I never understood why. It was not like I ever meant anything to her. Was it?
I sighed. I was unsure where I stood with Marinette. I felt it ironic- I should have wondered about such a thing when I found out about my girlfriend. I shook my head. I better do as the message requested and head out. The sooner I discovered the sordid details the sooner I could move on with my life.
Little did I know that it would be harder to move on than I imagined.
Time skip!
It had been two months since I received the news about Kagami. I had arrived safely in Japan and gone to the funeral, and reading of the will. It was one of the hardest things I ever did. It was awkward too. I did not know many of the Tsurugi family, but they accepted me as if I mattered. I also saw someone else there I never thought to see. I saw Nino Lahaffe my best friend in attendance with Alya Cesarie by her side. To my shock, Marinette Dupain-Cheng had come too. What brought her there?
Had she even known the dead girl? I knew it was morbid to think about such things. I struggled with my emotions and interactions a lot when Kagami was alive, more now that she was deceased.
After the funeral, the will was read. I stood silently as things were given to her mother, brother, cousins, aunts, uncles, and neighbors. Then, someone tapped me on the shoulder and handed me a small box. I opened it to find the ring she always wore with Japanese markings on it-her family crest. I shook my head, I could not take it. I gave it back to her grandmother who had presented it to me. "I must not, I don't deserve it." I tried to explain. The lady insisted I take it.
Marinette handed me another box when I looked inside I saw the dragon miraculous and a small dragon kwami named Long. "He is lonely, he misses his miraculous holder," Marinette told me. I smiled a weak smile. I closed the box and placed it inside my back coat pocket. "I will take good care of him, Marinette," I whispered.
Everyone ate some refreshments for a while. The tradition here was so different than in France. Here the family gathering could last from a day to a week. Well, the week went by fast. Then, it dragged on for two months.
Today, I woke up back in France. It was strange to be home. I still felt unsure what to do with my life now. How was I supposed to cope? I was used to having everything planned out for me.
This was harder than I imagined.
