Felix's POV:
I stood outside the Tsurugi residence in shock. I could not believe it. I had arrived too late. Too late to save her. I should have known that her dating my cousin would have led to this. I sighed. I was furious with my uncle Gabriel for being so adamant that Adrien was to be with Kagami. Why him? Did he know how much I cared about her?
I had met her years earlier, long before Gabriel had the absurd notion that Kagami was the one for his son. I had gotten to know her well, and I loved her. I had wanted to ask her to be my girl, but my dear Uncle swooped in and ruined everything. I blamed him more than I did my cousin Adrien for her untimely death. I was sure if she hadn't been with him and gotten obsessed with him instead of me she would still be alive.
I heard the sobs come from the funeral attendants. I felt left out. How could I enter the place? How could I explain my presence here? It was not like the others knew how I felt about her. I waited a while to try to explain what I was doing here. I heard a door slam. I looked up to see a young lady exit the house. Her appearance was an uncanny resemblance to the deceased. I could tell she was disturbed in some way. She seemed in a hurry to get out of there. As she rushed off, to my amazement my cousin called out after her, "Marinette wait!" Oh, so that was the girl he had told me about.
I felt the whole thing to be ironic. Here, he was supposed to be mourning the loss of his girlfriend and he was chasing after someone else. I wondered who she was to him. I felt my old feelings of jealousy return. How dare he? How dare Adrien pine after another so soon. Then again, it could be a complete misunderstanding, or Adrien had always cared for her.
Now, that I think about it, I recall Adrien had written to me about how bad he felt for being with Kagami Tsurugi because he did not love her. He had mentioned something about there being another girl. He had told me this in secret. He had gone on to say how he did not want to lose the girl he loved. He felt guilty that he was with Kagami, and explained his father had forced him to be with the Japanese girl. I was less upset with Adrien now and more ticked off with my uncle. How dare he make Adrien betray the girl he loved for the family inheritance and to make the company look good?
I never stood a chance with her once my uncle dug his claws in; making her be with my cousin. I was certain she had fallen for my cousin over time despite the fact, Adrien never could love her. I knew that now. I felt sorry for him. Marinette must be the girl he wanted to be with but had missed out on doing so no thanks to Uncle Gabriel. Ugh!
It was about time my uncle learned not to interfere in others' lives. He was nothing but a manipulative monster. I entered the house next. I felt awkward about the entire thing. I was not prepared to face Kagami's relatives. I could tell they whispered among themselves- they noticed how similar I was to Adrien Agreste. "Hi, I am Felix Graham De Vanily, you might not know me, but I was friends with Kagami. She and I were on good terms at one point. That is until Gabriel Agreste had to barge in and insist she was to go out with my cousin, Adrien!" I blurted out. I know I was awful. I could tell by the gasps that I got in return. Soon, I was shoved out the door. Great, I had gone and blown it now.
I returned home feeling ashamed of my behavior. I wrote an apology note to the Tsurugi. I explained how I loved their daughter. I told them, I regretted that I had not stopped my uncle from interfering in all our lives. I told them I wished I could go back in time, and ask Kagami to be my girl, to save her from heartache.
Time skip!
Two months later...
I texted Adrien, "Don't be so hard on yourself man. You had no way of knowing that Kagami was coming for a visit or that the train would have trouble that day. It is not your fault. You have got to stop blaming yourself, man. Feeling guilty about loving Marinette will not help matters. "
Adrien texted, "How did you know? How did you find out I loved Marinette? For that matter, I still love her. I do not know how to make things right with her."
I texted, "Cousin, it was the letter you sent me years ago when you first went together with Kagami. I thought about that shortly after you told me you got a telegram. I hoped you were wrong and that I could still save her. Only it turned out Kagami was gone, as you said."
Adrien texted, "Sorry, I know how much you loved her."
It was my turn to be surprised now. "How did you know?" Adrien texted, "I could tell by how concerned you were for her when I told you and how annoyed you were with my father."
I sobbed. I was grieving once more for what could have been, for what never could be, and for my horrible timing. Why hadn't I told her how I felt all those years before when I first met her?
I was too late for everything and I was alone once more.
