Marinette's POV:
I did not understand. Why should the prince help me? I am considered a criminal. I was let free from the dungeon that held me. I was taken to a strange, secluded place where he gave something to someone. I suppose it was money.
I was sorry to see him go. I was worried for him. I know because I am ill. I worry, he will catch whatever I have. Then, what will become of the crowned prince? I shudder to think, perhaps, he may die because he helped me.
I heard a voice say, Miss, drink this as he held a cup up to my lips. I swallowed the awful stuff. "Who are you?" "Miss, you must save your strength so that you can be better soon," he said. "Who are you?" I asked once more. "I am Doctor Luka Cuffaine. Adrien put you in my care."
"Doctor Luka Cuffaine, Adrien, he is in danger. I am sorry. It is my fault, honest." The doctor shook his head. "Miss, try to get some rest." I groaned in pain. What happened? I was fine the last time I saw Adrien. So, why then was I sick, and why was Adrien the one to find me?
Time skip!
Four days later...
I woke up confused. Where was I? The place was not as damp as the holding cell. Oh, right, I was under the care of the doctor. I saw him smile. "It seems our patients are awake, now are they?" He said. "Patients?" I asked. "Yes, it seems your friend, Adrien, made his way back here within a few hours after he dropped you off. I gave him the same treatment as you."
"Adrien? Is he alive?" I asked. "Yes, he is, and it seems you both are better than you were four days ago," Doctor Cuffaine explained. "Four days? It has been four days?" "Yes, what of it?" "I was to be hanged in four days." I blurted out. "Miss, the gallows were blown down by the storm. It seems it will take quite some time to rebuild them."
Also, a messenger arrived with news that the law has been altered. The thieves will no longer be executed. Instead, they shall be given proper jobs with fair wages so they shall desire to steal no more. Adrien looked stunned. Who had the authority to pass such a law? His father was dead, and he was yet to take over the throne. There must be some simple explanation.
"I see your puzzled look, sire, and I assure you that all is well with the kingdom. It seems your Aunt Amelia has come to the village, and she is residing as queen until such time you are ready to take your rightful position as our king." Doctor Cuffaine stated. Adrien smiled. I smiled too.
"Doctor, thanks for all your help, Marinette and I shall be going now. We no longer require your services, and I assure you, you will be repaid soon for all you do." Adrien said. "Adrien, thank you, but I can't go with you," I protested. "Oh, but I thought..." "I know, but I must go home. My sister, Kagami, will be worried. Besides, there is also Tikki."
"Tikki?" Adrien asked. "Yes, she is my puppy." I left suddenly before he could object once more.
"Marinette, wait up!" He called out. I ran further on and did not look back. I arrived home and knocked on the door. "Marinette, where have you been?" Kagami scolded me. "I was detained for a while, but this kind soul helped me. I was ill, but I am all better," I said. Kagami hugged me. I hugged her.

Adrien's POV:
I was surprised to wake up to see Doctor Luka and Marinette staring at me. Then, again, it had been a few days since I had last spoken to either of them. It was good to see Marinette looking so well. I was glad whatever had been meant to kill her had not succeeded.
I agreed to pay Doctor Cuffaine more later. I tried to convince Marinette to go with me, but she had family, a sister, and a dog. I followed her and saw her knock on a door. I watched in amazement as another girl, who appeared to be only a few years older than Marinette, opened the door. This must be the sister she had mentioned.
I saw them speak, then watched as they hugged. I supposed what I had to say to Marinette could wait. I heard a dog bark. Could it be Tikki? I saw this little ball of white fur jump up and down. I smiled. It appeared the animal was also happy to see its master once more.
I sketched the young lady, the pup, and her sister. The resemblance in the drawing was fascinating. I left to return home. I must not stalk her the whole day. After all, I had my princly duties to attain, too. I arrived at the castle and, upon entering, saw my aunt, Queen Amelia. "Hi," I said. "Hi, my nephew," she said. She hugged me, so I returned the favor.
"George, as you can see, the rightful heir has returned," She said. "I can most certainly see that Queen Amelia," He said. George left the room. I smirked. "Do you have a thing for George?" I asked. She blushed. "M-Maybe," My aunt said. I smiled knowingly.
"Before I am crowned, I wish to speak with Marinette Dupain-Cheng," I said. "The prisoner who escaped mysteriously, why ever would you wish to speak with her? I hope you know she is no..." "Shh, I wish to hear no more talk like that around here. She is my friend, and as such, I wish to have her brought before me, that I may pardon her," I said.
My aunt gasped in surprise. She left the room laughing. I was quite serious. I didn't need anyone's approval; I had the right to pardon whomever I pleased. It pleased me to pardon, Marinette Dupain-Cheng. Otherwise, despite the new law, I feared she might still hang once the gallows were rebuilt. I would rather not see her die in such a brutal way.
I sent George to fetch Marinette at once. He did as he was bidden. He was always such a loyal subject, and still is, for that matter. I waited for his return.
