The roar of the Hall H crowd still echoed in my ears as the stage cleared everyone heading backstage. I felt like I was on cloud nine with a set of anxiety and panic blistering below the surface.
The sneak peek for Thor: The Rise of Jupiter had just debuted, I mean a marvel-ous display of announcing my self to the world. Kevin Feige's announcement had been the cherry on top—"Marvel's best-kept secret," he'd said, revealing me as Jupiter.
"Nice work out there, enjoy the rest of the announcements super nerd?" Brie said, clapping me on the back as I passed. She and Chris Hemsworth were lounging on one of the plush backstage couches.
"You looked like you were about to hurl when they announced you," Chris teased, his trademark smirk plastered across his face.
"Cheers for the vote of confidence," I shot back with a grin. The cast was mingling backstage, sharing laughs and photos from the panel. As I grabbed a bottle of water, a familiar voice stopped me in my tracks.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't Scarlett's little mystery," the unmistakable drawl of Robert Downey Jr. filled the room.
I turned to find him leaning casually against a table, arms crossed, a sly grin on his face. He looked the same as ever—sharp, charismatic, and entirely in his element.
"RDJ," I said, matching his grin. "Fancy seeing you here."
"Fancy seeing me?" he shot back, his eyebrow quirking. "I think the bigger question is, when did you grow up and start stealing my spotlight?"
I laughed, shaking my head. "You're never not the centre of attention, are you, but you clawed it back there Dr Doom"
"Not when I'm in the same room as the offspring of Black Widow and what now Thor too?! Seriously, kid, that deserves a standing ovation."
The others had caught onto our conversation by now. Brie sidled up, smirking. "You should've seen him in his Sentry cosplay earlier. Full fanboy mode."
Robert's eyes widened. "You cosplayed here? As Sentry? You're telling me Marvel's latest poster boy was out there geeking out with the fans?"
Chris Hemsworth chimed in, laughing. "You should've seen him. He was blending in like one of us wouldn't notice."
"Blending in," Robert repeated, stroking his chin. "You know, I could have taught you better than your uncle Chris * goody two shoes,* cough* Rogers* Rule one of being an Avenger: Always own the room. Blending is for SHIELD operatives."
I shrugged, a sheepish smile on my face. "What can I say? Old habits die hard Ex army and SAS and I think we forgot my mother is you know THE Black Widow" I tese back.
Robert's grin softened into a hint of shocked anger crossing his face. "You know, I remember meeting you for the first time. Back in Scarlett's backyard. Thought you were just sneaking around with Lizzie. Not that you were you know The Secret Johansson!"
"Technically, we had been on a few dates," I admitted with a chuckle. "Didn't stop you from grilling mum like she was auditioning for Iron Man 4. When asking about me, I think mum said you were my biggest fan? That still stand?"
"I mean not many people can hide form the media for what 23 and a bit years, fight in the army and now debut as not only the child of the god of thunder but a character that isn't in the comics??"he said, gesturing broadly. "I would say so. Your autograph would worth BILLIONS."
"Thanks, Robert," I said, feeling a warmth in his words that I hadn't expected.
"Just don't let it get to your head," he added, the smirk returning. "I'm still the best thing Marvel's ever done."
