The Start

In Dorne, Daenys received a letter from her spy, who was still on Dragonstone. She opened the letter and read the contents. What she read froze her. She turned to the guards standing outside her door. "Please inform Prince Qoren, Princess Rhaenys, Lord Corlys, and Jace that I wish to meet them by the dragons." The guards nodded and headed off. Daenys headed straight for the dragons, and when Meraxes saw her rider, she already sensed something was wrong. Daenys greeted the dragons and lingered with Meraxes for a while. There were two things she needed to discuss with the four of them: her pregnancy and her spy's letter.

It wasn't long before the four of them came running up. The guards stayed a little further away, as Prince Qoren was the only one the dragons accepted. Rhaenys was the first to speak. "Daenys, is everything all right? What do you want to talk to us about?" Daenys looked into the faces of those standing before her. "There are two things I want to discuss with you, or rather, only one thing. The other thing is more to inform you." Jace looked at his sister in surprise. "You can talk to us about anything."

"I received a letter today from my spy in Dragonstone. The contents shocked me deeply and made me think. He overheard our mother calling Jace and me traitors to the crown during a Council meeting. If any of her people see us, they have permission to either capture us or even kill us. She knows nothing about Rhaenys and Meleys' survival. He also wrote that she is no longer of sound mind." "She can't be serious?" "Unfortunately, she is Jace." "What is your plan, Daenys?" "Actually, I didn't want to get so involved in this war. I wanted to gain supporters for my mother and minimize the damage as much as possible, but now I have to think about myself, too. I'm pregnant!" All four looked at Daenys with surprise but also understanding. Rhaenys approached the young girl and took her in her arms. "We will do everything we can to ensure this child has a better future."

"I will send a message to House Frye, House Stark, and my father. House Stark's loyalty lies not with my mother, but with me and House Frye, as they know Silverwing, they will reconsider their loyalty to my mother. I will ask father what he thinks of our mother's current condition. I will send this letter in such a way that he won't know exactly where it came from." Prince Qoren now turned completely toward Daenys and knelt before her. Lord Corlys did the same. "Dorne is in your hands. We will fight and die by your side." "Driftmark is yours too. We too will fight and die by your side." "Thank you. Please stand again." The two men stood up. "Prince Qoren, do you have any way of winning over the people still living on the Stepstones to our side?" "I will do my best. But give me a little time." "That is more than I can ask. Thank you very much. Lord Corlys, please return to Driftmark and take all precautions, but please don't get caught." "I won't." The two men said goodbye and left.

Rhaenys turned to Daenys. "What can I do?" "The three of us will wait for Aegon and Helaena to return, and then we will carefully plan our next steps. Perhaps there are still Houses we can win over to our side." "That's a good idea. Before I forget, I'm very happy for you and Aegon. You will be great parents." "I'm also very happy for you and will do everything I can to protect my niece or nephew." "Thank you."

The three of them walked back to Sunspear. Daenys went to her room to write the letters. She wasn't comfortable doing it, but it had to be done.

Aegon and Helaena were almost at their destination when they saw a ship leaving the harbor. "Did you see that, Aegon?" "Yes, wasn't that a ship from Lord Corlys's fleet?" "I think so. What have we missed?" "We'll hopefully find out soon. Look, Meraxes, Silverwing and Vermithor are back." "Oh yes, that means Daenys is back too." Seasmoke and Dreamfyre landed with the other dragons. Aegon and Helaena dismounted their dragons and went to Sunspear. There they met Rhaenys, who updated them both.

Now it was time to wait and plan. Daenys Targaryen was ready to go into battle!
