Billie's POV:
It's officially our wedding month and I could not be more excited, but I'm also losing my mind.
I thought the vows would just come to me naturally, like I'm always corny with Maddie but the one time I literally NEED to be, suddenly I can't do it.
Maddie's having no problems with her vows, she has drafts of what she wants to say actually. I've been lying to everyone though, everyone keeps asking 'oh how are the vows coming? You know that's the most important part!' 'It's going great!' Nothing is going great.
With Maddie, I'm so excited to marry her. I love when she's near me because I get to look at her wedding ring and it's always a reminder of what's coming and the fact that she's going to be mine forever.
Maddie thought it was pointless to have a bachelorette party, so she's just been planning little things to do with Claudia. I can tell Maddie's stressing a little bit though, I'm not sure why, once our honeymoon is over, her career is going to go back to what it was before everything, and Finneas and I are going to start producing my next album.
It seems like no time has passed in between Happier Than Ever, and what my next project is. That's kind of true. I'm just excited to move past this whole era of my life.
Maddie was right, the fans loved Happier Than Ever. I know why I doubted it so much, maybe because I know what really went into it.
Maddie's gone with Claudia right now, so that leaves me and Finneas to hang out. He's bringing Peaches so that way Ilo and Milo will be distracted.
I heard the front door unlock but Finneas didn't have a key so I was confused on who could be there if Claudia and Maddie are both gone. I waited for the door to be unlocked and Holden walked in.
Billie: "Hey Holden," I waved. I don't know why that felt awkward.
Holden: "Oh hey Bil, I'm just here to grab my hard drive, I left the wrong one."
Billie: "For the podcast?"
Holden: "No, I have Maddie's from her vlog camera. I left my personal one, there's a bunch of photos I need to edit on there."
Billie: "Gotcha."
Holden started to walk up the stairs and I heard him sigh before he started to walk towards me.
Holden: "Can I talk to you? Kinda professionally?"
Billie: "Of course?" Confused about why he's coming to me. Not that I don't want to help, I would assume he has all the help in the world with how far he's come.
Holden: "This is miserable."
Billie: "What do you mean?"
Holden: "As I graduated from NYU, Maddie immediately moved me out here and signed me to work for her. I love working for her, Maddie's not the problem. Maddie... appreciates what I do, and she knows how much I truly do for her. Like no cocky shit, I swear." He's been really careful with his words.
Billie: "Holden, I promise I understand. Keep going."
Holden: "I've gotten some amazing offers and amazing opportunities. I don't get... fulfilled doing all that though, because I know I'm just a photographer or an editor to the people I work for. Maddie's my friend and I want to work for her and her only. But if I tell her that, she's literally going to insist that I do other things because she doesn't want to feel like she's holding me back even though that's what I'm asking to do."
He's so right, that's exactly what Maddie would say.
Billie: "I understand, I wouldn't tell her now. She's worried about what her career is going to look like after the wedding and everything. Especially with everything that happened to her image after getting back with me. If things don't work out for her how she wants them to, you telling her that you want to work exclusively for her would probably make her really happy."
Holden: "You're sure?"
Billie: "I can't say, I know Maddie like the back of my hand. I can tell that she.. misses you. I even miss you, you used to be around so much and now you're here when something has to be worked on. Which is fine, you have a life outside of all this. You have a studio, and you go on dates and stuff. Like you're young, you still have a lot going for you. Take it from me, don't settle for companies you're not happy with."
He laughed.
He starts to get up and walk towards the stairs.
Holden: "So like how long until you think I can tell Maddie?"
Billie: "At least after the wedding."
Holden: "Funny you say that, basically, there's a contract that needs to be signed tomorrow at noon. With Vogue. To be their photographer and editor exclusively."
Billie: "So you wouldn't be able to work for Maddie anymore."
Holden: "Yeah. I'm not signing that contract."
Billie: "Wait? Are you busy tonight?"
Holden: "Not really no. Why?"
Billie: "You and Maddie are going to go to your studio and you're going to tell her. So that way Finneas can come over here and help me write my vows."
Holden: "Help you write your vows?" He laughed.
Billie: "I'm corny with her all the time naturally, but the second I need to be, suddenly I've never held a pencil." I smiled because this is fucking ridiculous.
Holden: "Where's Maddie at right now?"
Billie: "With Claudia, I think they're just shopping."
Holden: "Okay, I'll call her."
...
A few hours passed, and Holden texted me and told me that he'd told Maddie about what was going on. That's all he gave me, he didn't tell me how she took the news.
This really isn't that big of a deal, but Maddie being Maddie cares about other people so much, I can only imagine what she's thinking.
Finneas has come and left. He wouldn't help me write my vows because he said that I write music all the time, and it needs to come from my heart. Some cheesy shit like that.
I was sitting on the couch with the dogs when I heard the garage open meaning Maddie's home.
Maddie: "Billie!"
Billie: "Living room!"
I heard her set her keys down and I turned around to look at her.
Maddie: "Do you think that Holden should've turned down working with VOGUE to work for me?"
Billie: "If that's what Holden wants, I think it's okay. He shouldn't settle for companies he isn't happy with. He got out at a perfect time, he's not legally tied to any of these companies, he had time to figure out what he wanted."
Maddie: "I don't want him to.. not have opportunities because of me."
Billie: "He's had plenty of opportunities because of you shorty."
Maddie: "He talked to you already didn't he?"
Billie: "No."
Maddie: "Liar."
Billie: "He might've said something."
Maddie sighed.
Billie: "He said to me that he likes working for a friend, someone that helps him as much as he helps you. He knows that he's just an editor for these companies. But for you, he's so much more."
Maddie: "You might be right, but that doesn't mean I'm happy about it."
I smiled. She came and sat by me.
Maddie: "It's our wedding month by the way!" She kissed my cheek.
Billie: "29 days!"
She giggled and kissed me.
I love her.
