Last night, you had gotten home from your parents' place late, exhaustion settling deep in your bones. After a quick shower and the bare minimum of winding down, you crawled into bed and fell asleep almost immediately.
The next morning had blurred by in familiar routine—hours spent at the café, working until every responsibility for the day had been checked off and completed.
Now, you stepped out of the elevator in your apartment complex, heels clicking softly against the tiled floor as you made your way toward your door.
It had been a long day—emails, meetings, then more emails—but the promise of a quiet evening ahead kept you moving.
You slid your key into the lock and pushed the door open, immediately greeted by the soothing scent of your lavender diffuser.
The apartment looked just as you had left it that morning: a cozy haven bathed in soft lighting, carefully curated art prints lining the walls, and a throw blanket draped casually over the couch.
The first thing you did was kick off your shoes, letting them tumble into the corner by the door. Your feet sighed in relief as they met the cool hardwood floor.
Before you could take another step, a soft meow cut through the stillness.
You looked down to see Michi—your fluffy calico—trotting toward you, her tail held high and her warm brown eyes bright with recognition.
"Hey, Michi," you murmured, crouching to run a hand along her back.
She purred instantly, leaning into your touch before weaving between your legs. Her fur was warm and impossibly soft, and the simple act of petting her loosened the tight knot in your shoulders.
Michi followed you deeper into the apartment, brushing against your ankles with every step. When you finally set your bag down on the entry table, she hopped onto the nearby ottoman and watched you closely, her tail flicking lazily.
You headed toward the bedroom to change, and she was right behind you—leaping onto the bed as you peeled off your work clothes.
She curled into a little loaf on your comforter, her eyes following your every move as you swapped your office attire for soft navy blue sweatpants and your favorite white tank top.
Comfortable at last, you scratched Michi under the chin before heading to the kitchen to start dinner.

You opened the fridge, pulling out some fresh spinach, cherry tomatoes, and chicken you marinated the night before. Within minutes, the sizzle of chicken in the pan filled the air, mingling with the earthy aroma of garlic and herbs.
