Bakugo's answer was immediate. "No."
Flat. Firm. Automatic.
He leaned back slightly in his chair, arms crossing over his chest like he was already shutting the idea down before it could breathe.
"Absolutely not."
You didn't flinch.
"Katsuki," you said, calm but unwavering, "I'm ready."
He scoffed lightly. "You think being ready is just saying it?"
"Yes," you shot back, just as firm. "Because I wouldn't be saying it if it wasn't true."
His brows knit together, irritation flashing—then something else, quieter, underneath it.
"Hatsume finished my hero costume," you continued, leaning forward slightly now. "The final adjustments were done earlier today. And the therapy—" you swallowed, then steadied yourself, "—it helped. More than I thought it would."
His jaw tightened.
"And the training," you added. "The conditioning, the drills, the control exercises. I'm stronger. I'm faster. I'm clearer."
You met his eyes. "I'm not the same person I was when everything fell apart."
Silence stretched between you.
Bakugo's gaze searched your face—not skeptically, not dismissively—but carefully.
Like he was looking for cracks. Doubt. Fear.
He didn't find it.
His shoulders loosened just a fraction.
"...Tch," he muttered, looking away for half a second.
Then, quieter—different—he asked, "Are you serious?"
He looked back at you then, red eyes serious. Bare. Almost young in the way they held yours.
"I mean, are you really sure about this?"
You didn't hesitate. "If I wasn't," you said simply, "I wouldn't have asked."
The words settled between you.
Bakugo studied you for another long moment. The silence wasn't tense this time—just heavy with meaning.
Then, at last, he gave a single nod.
"I'll think about it."
Relief crashed through you so fast it left you breathless.
