" You seem to be doing better.

Did something good happen? "

M/n flinched at the sudden question and glanced sideways, where the fuck did he come from?

" Huh?-no.

Why ?" M/n responded calmly.

" Lately you seemed a little more closed off than usual. Even the manager could see it. " His coworker responded in a deep monotone voice, his dark eyes only glancing towards M/n for a brief second to see his expression. 'Nothing?.' He thought.

" oh. ." M/n paused for a moment, "sorry about that. " he said before continuing to clean the mysterious sticky residue off of the tables.

His coworker shook his head, "Don't apologize, it's just good to see you doing better. "

" Thanks. . " M/n trailed off, not knowing how else to fill the broken silence.

The silence is so loud now.

. Awkward. .

M/n huffed as he finished wiping the last table, " . . can I ask you something? " He asked whilst turning the chairs upside down and placing them onto the clean tables.

His coworker looked at him curiously, "What is it?"

"Are you a student too?-. . " M/n trailed off at the feeling of a cold breeze brushing against his back. He carefully placed the chair in his hand onto the table before turning around to see an empty counter and an open door.

Ah

" He left. " he muttered softly, then lightly shrugged.
At least he finished his part, now I just gotta close up.

M/n turned off the lights, causing his shoulders to instinctively relax into the peaceful darkness. He let out an exasperated sigh as he stretched his sore limbs. Just a little more. .
He thought while reluctantly pushing the door open, he reflexively closed his eyes as a burst of cold air slapped him in the face. Still .
The cold prickled his skin as he glanced at the flickering lamppost across the street. His eyebrows narrowed in thought, he couldn't help but take note of this lingering feeling in his gut. Was it a warning? No, it didn't feel like it, to him it felt something eerily close to anticipation.  .  So lost in thought, he didn't sense the dark figure slowly creeping up from behind.

A large pair of arms sneakily reached toward him from behind just as he finished securing the lock on the door. ". It's strange. ." He muttered, without even glancing at the person, he swiftly avoided them by harshly grabbing hold of their wrist and pulling them towards the wall in front of him. The attacker slammed against the wall harshly, a small grunt escaping their lips as M/n twisted their arm from behind.

"Who are you and what do you want from me?" M/n sternly asked, when the man didn't respond immediately he took it upon himself to tighten his grip and bury his knee onto the back of the man's thigh.

" Ngh! "

M/n's eyes widened, with his free hand he slowly reached into his pocket for his phone. He quickly turned it on and shone the light onto the persons face, " . if it's you . Why didn't you say something earlier? . " M/n quickly let go and removed his knee from the back of the man's thigh allowing a shaky sigh to escape from their lips.

The man didn't speak for a while, causing M/n to feel a slight pinch of worry.

" Gun ? "
