The night didn't end there. Wynn found herself in the passenger seat of Jahan's car and Terrance with Celeste as they navigated to their next move. Rob laid across the backseat as Jahan smoothly drove through the downtown streets. The Lion's Den was open and most people migrated there to finish their night.
"Aye y'all tryna go to Club Ronald?" Rob's voice carried over the front seats.
"Yeah, I could use a large fry." Wynn looked over to Jahan noticing he never said anything, "Or maybe not?"
"Nah, we can go. Whatever y'all wanna do." His focus on the changing lights from above. He knew the place to park would probably take a little while to get into as people came in and out of that apartment building often.
His usual spot behind the Main Street strip was occupied which irritated him. Wynn noticed his hand gripping the steering wheel. "There's a spot on Main Street but, it might be a little tight."
He nodded, quickly making his way to the Main Street. The spot was indeed still there. Once he parked, he got out first and walked around to the street to let Wynn out safely.
The oncoming traffic wouldn't stop long enough for them to move to the side walk. Side by side they stood flush against his car. Rob already made his way to the long line outside of the popular food chain.
"All this for some fucking McDonald's" he grumbled.
"You know we didn't have to come." She was starting to get annoyed with his attitude. It was like he was frustrated with everything.
"I said it was cool."
"But you're acting like it's not."
Once the traffic cleared, she walked ahead to the sidewalk. Jahan quickly followed grabbing her hand to slow her down. Wynn stopped, looking at him with a blank face.
"Why did we stop?"
"Cause I upset you, so I wanted to make it right before we went anywhere else."
Wynn wasn't necessarily upset. It just didn't make sense why his mood changed.
"I'm not upset, just confused on why you're irritable now. Did I do something?"
Yes but how was he going to explain to her that she had his brain running a million miles a minute. The close proximity, the new level of intimacy had broken a layer between them they never shared. His eyes were now fixated on everything, the fact that one eye was a slightly lighter brown than the other, how there were a trail of freckles along her nose normally covered by glasses.
"You didn't do anything. I'm just trippin." Wiping his hand over his face he blew out a breath, "I'm sorry."
"You sure?" He nodded, trying not to get lost in her big brown eyes.
He grabbed her hand for confirmation. The street—crowded causing the ship to weave through. She held his hand tighter as they finally reached the line. Even though they were next to each other.
"You don't like being around a lot of people do you?" He asked bringing her closer. "I hate it actually."
"So why were you at that kickback in the first place?"
She only went because Celeste asked and everyone on campus seemed to be talking about this one event. She had fun until that embarrassing situation but she would be willing to go out again. Probably not so soon though.
"Trying to say yes to more things. I hear I have no social life." She awkwardly giggled.
"I mean, if you desire to be more social than what you're doing right now isn't much of a social life. But if you're comfortable and content with where you're at, then it is your social life and that's fine."
