"So, are you a civilian?" she jumps straight to the point, her voice low but teasing, eyes scanning the room even as she speaks.

"Well... I have a power card," I say, leaning in a little closer. "So yeah, I'm one."

Her smile fades for a second as her brows lift. "Oh girl, you're not supposed to tell anyone that!" she hisses, eyes darting left and right like someone might've overheard us. "What if I was mafia? I could've just killed you and taken it from you right now."

I shrug, giving her a small, stubborn smile. "I trust you enough to tell."

She stares at me for a second—really stares. Then that familiar smirk returns to her lips. "You're an idiot," she says quietly, nudging me. "But I love that idiot heart of yours."

"So are you also—?" I begin, but before I can even finish, she suddenly grabs my arm, holding it tightly. Her eyes meet mine, intense and unwavering.

"I don't know how to make you believe me," she says, voice firm, almost desperate, "but I am a civilian. And even if I wasn't—even if I was a mafia—I would never kill my own people. Never you."

My heart stutters for a moment. The way she said it... it wasn't just a statement. It was a vow.

Then she turns her head sharply, scanning the crowd. "Nat!" she shouts, waving someone over. "Found another of us!"

I freeze. Nathan.

He walks toward us slowly, his expression unreadable. But I don't need to read his face to know what I feel.

I turn my head away from him, jaw clenched, eyes burning with quiet fury. I don't greet him. I don't even flinch. I just let the silence speak for me.

Let him see it.

"Let's play together, Lysa?" Kate asks, her voice soft but hopeful.

My heart skips. Lysa. God, it's been so long since someone called me that.

I blink back the sudden warmth behind my eyes and smile, just a little. "Oh my lord, it's been so many days since someone called me that. Yes, of course. I'd love to."

But then my smile fades as I glance sideways—at him.

I point straight at Nathan, voice flat and eyes narrowed. "But how can we trust this guy here?"

Nathan doesn't flinch. He just looks at me with those same cool, unreadable eyes that used to mean everything. And now? I can't tell if they mean nothing or too much.

"He's my brother, dude!" Kate says, half-laughing, trying to lighten the moment. "Anyway, he has a power card too—so basically, people with power cards can't be mafia..."

I nod slowly, chewing on her words, but I'm not ready to let go of the tension yet. I shift the conversation, dodging the emotional pull.

"What about Aiden and Tyson?" I ask, pretending it's a casual question, though my voice betrays the lump forming in my throat.

Kate goes quiet. Her smile falters.

"Tyson... he..." Her voice cracks, and a tear slips down her cheek.

"He's dead," she whispers, barely audible. "And Aiden—he wanted time alone. You know how close they were. Like magnets. Always drawn to each other. Nothing could separate them."

She pauses, eyes flickering with pain.

"But Magemenos did. Finally tore them apart."

Her words hit me like ice water. I don't even realize I've gone still, breath catching in my chest.

"Are you okay, Kate?" I ask, watching her wipe her cheek quickly.

She nods with a shaky breath. "Yeah... yeah. Let's just focus on surviving, okay? We play as a group. We collect people we trust."

Before I can respond, she suddenly lifts her head and shouts, "Keith!"

I freeze. Oh no.

He turns toward us, casual as ever, that confident stride making it very obvious he's used to attention. And I? I instinctively turn my face away, pretending to examine the nearest wall like it's a masterpiece.

The truth? After learning he's the Keith—the celebrity, the one everyone knows and talks about—my brain decided that awkward shyness was the only option.

My heart thuds. Great. Now is when I forget how to act normal?
