"Fine, leave me, both of you!" I snap, yanking my hands away. "I'll stay in the middle just so you two don't start swinging at each other again. And Nathan, seriously, stop punching people over every little thing. You're like a toddler who just learned to walk and can't wait to stomp on everyone!"
Keith lets out a giggle, "Hahah, khikhikhi..."
I glare at him. "Don't laugh, Keith! You're even worse. At least Nathan did something useful. All you've done so far is make everything more complicated!"
Keith raises his hands in mock surrender, "Hey, I'm just here for the entertainment!"
"Yeah, well, the joke's on us," I mutter.
"Both of you, stop driving me crazy and solve your catfights already!" I huff, crossing my arms.
There's a heavy silence for a few seconds before Nathan finally breaks it. "We should focus on getting out of here first," he suggests, sounding surprisingly calm for someone who just dragged us into an animal pit.
"Yeah, but let's make sure the den's gone," I add, peering into the darkness.
Keith scoffs, "Oh sure, because checking for psycho-clown-creatures is always at the top of my to-do list."
"He's gone, or else he'd come crawling down here like the creep he is," Keith adds, waving his hands like he's doing a zombie impression.
"So, what's the plan?" I ask, looking between Nathan and Keith.
They exchange glances, both trying to look more confident than the other.
"Who's taller between you two?" I ask.
"Obviously me," they both say in unison, like it's the most obvious thing in the world.
I can't help but grin. "Alright, stand next to each other. Let's measure."
They reluctantly shuffle over, standing side by side, each trying to stretch a bit taller. Keith is practically standing on his tiptoes, while Nathan is puffing out his chest like he's about to win an Olympic gold for height.
"Oh wow," I say, pretending to be deep in thought. "This is going to be so close... if we measure in millimeters."
"I feel like Keith is taller," I announce, pausing for dramatic effect. "But just a tiny bit taller. Like, the difference between a grain of rice and a grain of sand."
"Told you!" Keith exclaims, flexing his nonexistent muscles, his face lighting up like a kid who just won his first 50-meter race. He's practically beaming, soaking in the glory of this insignificant victory.
Nathan, on the other hand, rolls his eyes so hard I'm surprised they don't pop out of his head. His expression says it all: he's disappointed in me, as usual, and visibly irritated with Keith's over-the-top celebration.
"Okay, great," Keith says, his curiosity finally getting the better of him. "But what was the point of this whole height measurement thing?"
"Simple," I reply with a grin.
***********SCENARIO CHANGE***********
"Straighten your back, you fool!" I snap, frustration boiling over.
"How am I supposed to stand up straight when you've got one foot on my shoulder and the other on my head?" Keith grumbles. "Get your damn legs off my head, or I swear I'm dropping you!"
"What are you even showing off for when you have no muscles?" I shoot back.
Keith scoffs, "What do you mean? Check these out!" And with that, he decides it's the perfect moment to let go of my feet and flex his so-called muscles.
Predictably, my balance wobbles, and I topple off his shoulders, falling in mid-air. "Are you serious?!" I yell as I plummet, my eyes glued to his ridiculously amazing biceps.
But, to my surprise, there's no thud, no crash landing. I open my eyes slowly, bracing myself, only to find Nathan right in front of me, his eyes locked onto mine. I'm cradled in his arms like Tinker Bell in Peter Pan's.
Okay, time to snap out of this highly unlikely fairytale moment.
"Oh, please! Do your PDA somewhere else!" Keith grumbles, rolling his eyes so hard I'm afraid they might get stuck.
"Ehh... what will it take for you to get down?" Nathan asks, his voice sounding almost... amused?
"Oh, sorry," I mumble, quickly scrambling out of his arms. As my feet hit the ground, I notice Keith staring at us, his eyes wide, like he just witnessed a UFO landing.
I march over to Keith and thump him on the chest. "Why did you drop me? I knew you were too weak to hold on. That's why I couldn't trust you, and you just proved me right!" I snap.
