I put the bed into a reclining position with a remote that I found resting on the sheets. Having just woken up I felt afresh and curious to explore beyond this bleak room. I peeked over the bed and down at the cement floor. Despite my curiosity I was intimidated by the daunting task of actually getting out of bed. When I heard voices approaching, I settled comfortably; eager to see that kind lady again.
Should it be her again I endeavored to acquire her name. It was unbeknownst to me and it would help to have a name to a face. I cleared my throat with the question ready on my tongue. Confident that I would manage to speak this time. Giddy with excitement I imagined that her name would make me feel even warmer than her presence.
The excitementI felt seemed to hyper settle, causing a strange sensation in my veins. That sensation traveled to my heart and soon I could feel a buzz in my chest. I took a deep breath as the woman entered the room. Any thoughts about that minor buzz whizzed away when two men came into the room as well, one was a tan version of the hulk with jeans and a formal sweater. The other was a tall lanky dude with a suit on. I couldn't think of more different looking guys. Then again… there were no other guys in my memory to think of.
There was a moment of silence before the sweet woman broke it. “We just have a few simple questions sweetie.”
I blinked at her before casting a leary look at the men.
The black-haired, purple-eyed woman did not pay as much regard to me as she had last time I saw her. Her focus was on the hulk-man. Gesturing to me she spoke to him, “Alpha M’est’r.”
The hulk-man -Alpha M’est’r- took a step forward. “What information do you ha-”
His voice faded after she said his name. Alpha M’est’r. It seemed to make my head pound. I did indeed remember the name. From where, I was not sure. I could vaguely see a halo of some sort of empty conference room. A higher platform with a narrow table with very exquisite leather chairs.
Then I saw a cold concrete room. A wicker chair sat alone in the middle. I tried to see more into the picture but that is all I could get. The memory of the dark room.
It was more than a memory though, the feeling of danger seemed to creep through my mind’s window and to my nervous system. I started shaking. I wanted the flashback to stop. I looked past my thoughts and to reality. Voices from the present finally rang in my ears.
The purple eyed woman was in my face, holding one of my hands and with her other she cupped my cheek.
“Look at me, right here. Look at me, pup.”
When I made eye contact with her she smiled. “It's OK. Just take a deep breath.”
I did as she asked and relaxed. I had not realized how stiff I was until I seemed to melt into the comfortable bed like a glob of goo.
“Did the question bother you?” She asked.
Question? I didn't hear a question. “No, I didn't hear him right.”
Alpha M’est’r took a step forward. When he did so the woman stepped back with her head down. She was submissive. This made me realize that this guy was more than my memory gave him credit for. I tried to be calm, yet there it was… a constant buzz in my chest that threw me off in the wrong way.
With his glare intensifying the room he spoke again. “What do you know of Joinervetti?”
My blood seemed to coil at the sound of his voice. Yet, I breathed evenly to think about his question. Joinervetti. The name was hollow to my ears. There was no meaning or significance of it to me. Comparing the reaction I had with the name of Alpha M’est’r it seemed evident that this Joinervetti was nil. I shook my head, “I do not know anything.”
