I stood there, under the cursed pergola, getting soaked.
Gummy scrunchies! Why a pergola?!
With a frustrated grunt, I stomped my foot. Still, I was greatly humiliated. Wanting to cover my shame I turned away from the glass doors and took a few steps. The rain showed no mercy and thunder rumbled in the distance.
Come on! I just had one job to do!
My hair began to flatten and stick to the sides of my face. Droplets seeped through my dress. and the wetness felt cold on my skin. I took my hand fan and opened it up. Placing it over my head to shield my eyes from the rainfall.
Another annoyed groan went past my lips when droplets began to seep through the fabric of the fan.
I need to calm myself down before I make my own predicament worse.
I began to take calming but strained breaths. I was still borderline angry.
I looked out into the flower garden, the falling rain kept a haze in the distance, giving a perception of fog.
Raindrops dripped into my ears and trailed down my legs. My flats squished as water filled it.
This reminded me of the woods back in Vakusi, getting soaked and feeling cold. Still, the memory brought a smile to my lips. Things were so different then. Lins was sick but now she was well. I still had no idea who Obsidian was and now, we were married. So much had happened in such little time. Dropping my hand I decided to close my eyes and welcome the rain onto my face. Afterwards I would probably look like a raccoon due to smeared make up but I did not care. Sure, life was rough but I actually had a lot to be thankful for.
I heard the door open behind me.
"Nu Vae'Lee!"
Hearing the male voice brought a measure of relief. I turned just as a he-wolf reached me. A smile touched my lips. I recognized him as a BlackAxis Eta.
"I am sorry, nor. Let's get you out of the rain." He urged, pressing on my arm.
I nodded quickly, "Yes, please."
We both sauntered back into the parlor.
Once the warmth from the room settled on me I looked around the room and saw all pairs of eyes looking at us with minor contempt. All except Qu'Yda, she was standing off to the side with a worried expression on her face.
"Who locked the Próta Epsilon's mate outside?" The Eta looked around the room in fierce accusation.
The room immediately went silent. Expressions fell and eyes widened. All lips were pressed tight as no one dared to claim to have locked me out.
Every Luna and proper woman in the room looked also frozen in disbelief. Particularly Luna La'Ney and Luna Ten'Hah, their faces were pale and yet still staunch with pride.
Qu'Yda, however, began to smirk.
Luna Le'Ney jumped forward. "Oh my poor dear Vae'Lee, your makeup is a disaster and your hair!" Her sudden exclamation was undoubtedly a ruse to distract from the situation. She turned to the Eta. "Nie, you must let me attend to her. My Omega is exceptional and can fix her up more beautifully than before."
I thought of the offer given to me, it was tempting because I felt that one Omega would be better company than sixty-some high-strung she-wolves and also, looking like this would garner too much attention when I had to actually do my job here. I looked at Luna Le'Ney, "I do believe that I will accept your offer."
The Eta turned to me. "Do you want to accuse anyone?"
With a blink I shook my head, I did not think that accusing any Luna or Beta's mate would pan out well for BlackAxis, especially when we were trying to lay low. "No, it's fine. Whoever did this succumbed to childish vanity. I'd rather not waste my time." My voice was dry, with a hint of disdain.
