(Throwback: Kejyta's Day One of Captivity)
He smelled and heard them long before he saw them. With a quick mind-link he told his co-Eta to recruit more Etas. The humans were doing another one of their odd, and seemingly senseless activities. They did weird things right on the border line roughly every other month. It wasn't consistent, and the activities that they did were sometimes different. Hem’Lar wondered what they would do this time. Perhaps they would do that one thing that caused his entire military pack to howl with laughter for a week, where they do the unusual jumping and flail their arms back and forth. The lot always looked like kitty-cats doing such silly exercises.
Hem’Lar began trotting along toward the scent. At the moment, he could only scent two sweaty bodies. A male and a female. The female smelled a bit more mature, which made Hem’Lar wonder if perhaps they finally got rid of that unruly Zeta (war general) that they had. Still, though, it was a female. Surely, a delicate kind of person would not take this kind of role. Hem’Lar remembered that he was thinking of Vakusi.
The Vakusian’s were ruthless people without a doubt. The fact that their females were drafted into war already expressed how little compassion and nurture the country had. Hem’Lar had outlived a fair share of his military pack partners who suffered execution from these people.
Then again, the Wos’Theon military was cold-blooded as well. He himself was not innocent from spilling Vakusian blood. Hem’Lar knew the number that died from his canines, and it was not a pretty number.
As the scents of the humans grew, telling Hem’Lar of the closing distance, Hem’Lar raised his hackles. Why they did these activities so close to the fence still baffled him. It only maintained the tight, strenuous tension between countries. Did Vakusi not know that?
Hem’Lar would not be surprised if that was their intention. He knew, just knew that these risky actions were going to cause a break in the 7 year no-war record that the countries had with each other. The last strife had been in the Imbrue Battle. The Imbrue Battle was more than a mere shocker. It was something that should not have happened. Needless to say that it was Wos’Theon's fault for being blinded by a traitorous, power-hungry leader.
Hem’Lar finally spotted one of the humans. It was indeed a female. She was standing in the small opening that the fence had but still on Vakusian ground. She held her wolf-blood killing machine awkwardly with one hand and was tapping her fingers onto her bulky outfit.
Hem’Lar could tell instantly that this was no military female. Her stature was poor, her stance was weak, she was not alert with her surroundings, and she had no stealth at all. Sure, she was older than most that came around but one could hardly tell. What was Vakusi doing putting this practically pathetic child in a deadly place?
Hem’Lar tried to spot the other human but could not spot him. The smell of him was muffled in a sense so he wondered if the male human left.
Hem’Lar carefully crept closer to the female. At this point he wondered if she was blind for not spotting him already. She seemed to be just casually gazing at the trees as a sightseeing tourist would.
Hem’Lar finally stopped being stealthy and simply sat down, he would let the human see him. That usually caused them to evacuate sooner rather than later.
After a minute that was too long, the female finally landed her eyes on him. Instead of the defense stance he'd seen so many times, the female just stood stock still. Even from this distance, he could see the visible tremor in her hands. Her wide eyes darted around and back at him.
