When Ty'Mee's eyes glazed over I worried that she was having a seizure but then they returned to normal and she looked at me, telling me that the Alpha had returned. Realizing that she was actually mindlinking I peered over my shoulder and confirmed that the water Eta was walking toward us. No doubt to relay the same information.
I waved Lins over and told her it was time to wrap up the sandcastle party. Momentarily, she complained but stood up and sulked over to me. Behind her, Duo’Lae ran to the other group of mothers and whispered something into her mother's ear. I saw that frown before I turned my head to follow my footsteps. Holding onto Lins’ hand I snuck a peek behind me and saw the woman now engaged in conversation with another mother while Duo’Lae sat wistfully next to her.
I was afraid of what it would cause; for Lins and I to stay here long term. It would be no easy feat to get these wolfbloods used to us or even accept us. Not just that but our whole future was dependent on one man: Alpha M’est’r.
I thought of the tattoos underneath the cuff of my sweater. I had yet to show Lins the black property markings and to explain to her the whole I-am-now-a-werewolf thingy. With the full moon mere days away I was losing the opportunities to tell her.
I watched the girl skipping next to me. Tonight, right after this meeting with the Alpha. No ifs, ands, or buts. I will tell Lins, because she more than deserves to know.
Once Lins was situated with a smorgasbord of paper crafts and activities I left with Ty'Mee and the water Eta to go meet the Alpha. Gone was his casual attire as he now wore the military attire. Seeing him in all his professionalism did not help my rising fear. My nerves were high and my pulsing heart was making me feel weak and lightheaded. Ty'Mee seemed to tell and held onto my arm. We passed the Center packhouse and went to the first.
I gathered this was the elitist packhouse. The residence of the higher-ups and distinguished wolfbloods of the Black Axis Pack. Just the air of superiority seemed to hang in the very air itself, that coupled with the distinct clothing and attitude made it clear that these wolfbloods were held in higher regard. My stepping into the front doors brought a hush into the dining hall. A sudden game of glares and stares seemed to have commenced. Some seemed curious and potentially friendly while others looked as if they already made their mind about me.
“One of my friends, who lives in this packhouse, she sews like nothing else.” Ty'Mee waved her hand in the air. “I have always told her that if I ever got a chance to go to a Convention then I wanted her to sew my dress. I even drew a picture of what I imagined. I would be the Queen B of the Convention and every lady would be so jealous of me. Let me tell you, they would just be green with envy.”
We walked past the crowd of onlookers and down the hallway, littered with bystanders. Ty'Mee continued to ramble, “...yet I will probably never go to a Convention so I will not frivvy myself with such useless aspirations and empty dreams. However, if anyone should ask, I could design a dress for them! Oh, if I had not become a Theta, I think that I would've joined the seamstresses.”
There seemed to be a small dome opening in the hallway with a tall set of double doors. The doors were arched, painted red with raised gold designs of distinctive symbols that held no meaning to me.
“Ah, here we are.” Ty'Mee stopped walking and let go of my arm.
We waited in the opening for a few minutes before Ty'Mee leaned to whisper in my ear. “I know that you are honest but still be careful, Alpha M’est’r can sniff out a lie better than I can sniff out a rabbit.”
I turned to the doctor with appreciation but that statement did not help my dread.
The water Eta lifted his hand. “You may enter.”
