My neck went up and my ears turned forward when I heard noises. In the wolf form the darkness did not hinder me too much. I could still see details that I knew would not have been plausible in human form.
Loud noises coming from the packhouse. I swallowed hard and the Eta in front of me sped up. Already struggling to keep up with him I fell behind, yet to my relief I could see the opening in the trees in front of me. I used that as a motivation to keep going despite my breathlessness.
The wee morning sky opened up for us and the plane before the packhouse was now nearly empty. All the troops were gone. The hard settling in my stomach coincided with the knowing that they were at the base. My keen ears picked up roaring in the distance. When did the fight start? Midnight? How would everyone see clearly enough to know who they were fighting?
The Eta before me stopped quite a few paces from the packhouse. I trotted up to him and shifted. Stretching my muscles, I looked at him, sweat beaded down from his shirt hair and his breaths came in short. I could tell by his wide eyes flitting back and forth that the serum was affecting his mentality.
I grabbed his arms and he jerked violently, looking at me. “I got- I- I got to tell Alpha M’est’r something! I don't- I forgot! I forgot!”
“Hey!” I shook him to get his attention. “Eta! Look at me.
”
His wide eyes seemed to go all over the place.
“I will tell him, okay? You are hurt, you need to get to Theta.”
He gripped my arm, glaring at me directly. “NO! I must tell Alpha M’est’r something!”
My arm hurt where he gripped it tightly. I winced and pointed to the main packhouse. “He's with Theta Ty'Mee! He's helping her with something!” I yelled out the lie to get the Eta's strong hand off of me.
The Eta let go of me in a flash and looked at the packhouses. “I must tell Alpha M’est’r something!”
With that final declaration he rushed toward the packhouses. Sprinting as fast as Wey’Don, I did what I could to keep up but of course he was in the main packhouse before I even was halfway there.
As I reached the front porch, a truck sped into the driveway.
I only granted the truck a half a glance before I pushed the door open. Wheezing for breath, I jogged my way to the medical hall. More clambering met my ears and I finally reached the room. Theta Ty'Mee and another Iota had the Eta to the floor. He was pinned but struggling to be released, screaming on the top of his lungs. “I MUST TELL ALPHA M’EST’R. WHAT DID YOU DO WITH HIM!?”
Ty'Mee looked up and saw me, worry and confusion evident in her voice. “Vae'Lee! What are you doing here?! What's going on?!”
I held onto the door frame and gasped for air. “We ambushed a scout… more rogues coming… from the west… he was shot… with serum.”
Still holding on tightly onto the Eta's arms, Ty'Mee turned to the Omega behind her. “Get Eta Ful'Lan's blood! Run it!”
The Omega ran for the fridge.
“Vae'Lee! Find someone to relay the message to Alpha M’est’r or my mate, he should be with him!”
Just then, behind me someone shouted. “Wounded load!”
I turned and two Omegas were running down the hall with a stretcher. I pressed myself against the wall as they passed. Seeing the wounded warrior as he passed by. His arm was gone, the bone was contorted and the muscles spasmed angrily. I could see the blasted ligaments damaged skin. Nasty gashes went down his chest. He was not conscious.
