Tevit

I peered over the tall grass, and at the base a ways ahead of me. It had changed so much since I last saw it. Before it looked like a glorified summer camp retreat and now it actually looked like a legit military base. Gone was the welcome banner up front. Gone were the booths that advertised different activities. In were additions that fortified the place. One specific new addition was the eight foot tall barbed wire fence surrounding the entire place. And even taller yet; watch posts with soldiers on duty in them. I did not dare to get too close for fear of being seen. Soldiers walked around the base like ants on a mission.

A shiver crawled through me. This place looks scary now. I probably should find a different way to get information.

I slunk back into the grass and rubbed my arms that were still riddled with goosebumps. My mind went from one possibility to another.

There is not really another way. I could go around from town to town asking people if they know Bratir Gosperniv but that could take months and I, apparently, did not have months. Bratir was once here at this place so they ought to have his personal information on file. Including his address.

I looked above the grasses again. It seemed like a good idea at first but seeing the remodel, I knew trying to break into this military base would be suicidal. My plans needed to change... again.

There were two people conversing by the main barracks. Perhaps one was Commander Tevit? I tried to see the faces of the individuals but my human eyes fell short. I just need to find out if Commander Tevit works here still. He did not really like me but if he found out I was still alive he might show me grace.

I twisted my lip, I had a plan based on wishes upon stars and not facts.

Then, I recalled when I had shifted and my vision was extremely increased. If only I could utilize that. I certainly could not shift. One, I was unreliable, and two, I am bigger as a werewolf and my color does not blend well with this grass. I would stick out like a mole on a face.

Wait...

I pulled out the letter that Zeta Hem'Lar wrote. Reading it until I got to the part I was looking for.

"...After the coming full-moon you may find yourself unable to shift although your senses should be still intact..."

The letter says my senses should still be intact. And Wey'Don mentioned something about merging my senses without shifting. Is that even possible for me?

If it was possible, then it would change the game for sure. Should I try? I drew a deep breath as my hands began to quiver. Anxiety attacked me at the prospect of it.

I need to try.

I closed my eyes. I did not know what to do but decided to focus on where the buzz usually comes from, although since the full-moon or the lack thereof, I have not had any. When nothing happened I relaxed a little more and tried my focus again. I felt a sensation, it was not a hum. Rather, it felt like a coldness going through my blood. I could almost feel it spread through my veins but as it did, my head began to ring and ache. I snapped out of it and found myself heaving. A wave of shivers consumed me for a few seconds.

I placed my hand on my head, trying to see past the new headache.

I must've been on the right track.

I pressed myself closer to the ground. I need a minute.

After another deep breath I looked back up. Okay, let's do this.

Keeping my eyes on the two beings in front of what I had formally known as the main barracks, I felt a rush in my blood vessels. In my head, throat, back, feet, everywhere. It was uncomfortable, like nails on a chalkboard. Nonetheless, I kept my focus on the people and allowed the melding of human and werewolf to occur.
